1947réf. 190232Berlin: Air Headquarters British Air Forces of Occupation 1947. First edition of the official record of the RAF's role in the dissolution of the Luftwaffe produced for internal use and marked "restricted". The Potsdam agreement called for the complete disbanding of the Luftwaffe. The report is a detailed chronicle of the RAF's work in fighting the Luftwaffe as Allied forces progressed across Europe and disarming and dissolving Luftwaffe units at the end of the war. It was a huge task - there were almost a million air force personnel to disband and thousands of aircraft and a large supply of munitions to destroy. It gives accounts of the destruction of Luftwaffe aircraft and munitions and the work of bomb disposal units including a list of men killed in operations. The report describes the operation's planning and execution in detail and the information remained sensitive - some maps are still marked "secret" or "top secret". The report was reprinted in 1995; this original is rarely encountered. 2 vols folio. With 9 folding maps and 4 folding charts 3 in colour. Original blue cloth front covers lettered in gilt. Small chip at foot of vol. I front joint light rubbing. A very good copy. hardcover
