1963ref. 233101963. Post-Revolution ChinaCommunism PRC Cultural Revolution propaganda set of 10 lianhuanhua graphic novel booklets issued by the PRC propaganda press system between 1963 and 1984 centered on the culture revolution model soldiers anti-Japanese resistance and child heroism. The covers name campaigns and exemplary figures through titles including Chicken Feather Letter Surprise Attack Tunnel Warfare Honghu Red Guards Good Eighth Company on Nanjing Road Heroic Little Eighth Route and Capture the Enemy Flag while the interior pages state explicitly political morals like "The deepest source of the power of war lies among the masses" followed by "Revolutionary war is a mass war." Another photographed page frames sacrifice as Maoist instruction declaring: "Thousands upon thousands of martyrs for the interests of the people laid down their lives heroically before us; let us hold high their banner and advance along the path marked by their blood!" Illustrated PRC propaganda comic booklets. China: various provincial PRC presses 1963-1984. Set of 10 illustrated booklets each approximately 4 x 5 inches ranging from about 60 to 200 pages. Titles include Chicken Feather Letter Surprise Attack Tunnel Warfare Honghu Red Guards Good Eighth Company on Nanjing Road Heroic Little Eighth Route and Capture the Enemy Flag. The photographed title and colophon pages place the group across multiple provincial publishing systems including presses in Beijing Shanghai Zhejiang Shandong Tianjin Liaoning and Shaanxi. The booklets were designed for mass distribution using narrative episodes of soldier heroes and youth protagonists to glorify CCP ideology. These booklets were a central tool through which the PRC circulated revolutionary history and Maoist political language to mass readers especially younger readers in cheap durable heavily illustrated form. The concentration here on anti-Japanese struggle disciplined PLA units local militia action and heroic children gives the set a distinct documentary value as evidence of CCP socialist pedagogy across two decades. Clean complete and in very good condition. These 10 booklets preserve the language and narratives by which the Cultural Revolution propaganda system distributed CCP ideology to mass readership. unknown

One of a number of paintings on the theme to appear in the immediate aftermath of Hua's taking power the picture was put on the cover of the exhibition catalogue. Other exhibits depict Mao and Zhou Enlai revolutionary models and scenes of a politically and socially harmonious society. The publisher released issues for domestic and international distribution. This example is identified as the international issue in the printed colophon. Together 151 loose sheets 320 x 380 mm printed one side only and mostly in colour; 8-page contents booklet. Some light creasing and toning to folds otherwise very good 1st January 1945 having some soiling and wear to lower edge. Maps present include: Mnday 1st January 1945; Monday 15th January 1945; Monday 5th February 1945; Monday 30th Aril 1945; Monday 28th May 1945; Monday 2nd July 1945. "Newsmap" was a weekly educational and propaganda poster published by the US War Department during and immediately after World War II. It ran for basically four volumes from April 1942 up to March 1946 after which an additional eight issues were published. Newsmaps were not issued for general distribution rather they were distributed to military installations branch bases and government and civilian groups working on War Department projects in a military adjacent capacity. Ostensibly concerned with providing easily digestible progress data to service personnel including information on where fighting was happening the geography and type of territory and what the enemy was doing they also served as a morale boosting exercise promoting a sense of sweeping progress and imminent victory. The language is solid and implacable mostly ending on a positive note; "Eighth Army forces took several small places and American troops beat off fierce Nazi attacks" even at points in the war when general morale might have been at a lower ebb; colorful eye-catching and bluntly explanatory they provided a visible barometer for service personnel and civilians away from the theatre of war. 1922ref. 85914Boston: Houghton Mifflin 1922. First American Edition. First printing. Published the same year in London Constable. Octavo; red cloth hardcover; xix308pp. Spine darkened with mild soil to covers; endpapers toned from old jacket offsetting; text generally clean and unmarked; just a VG copy lacking the dustwrapper. A low-point which is saying something in the corpus of British antisemitic propaganda masquerading as a disinterested examination of the "Jewish Problem" by the noted Franco-English Catholic writer and historian. In the most reasonable-sounding way Belloc puts forward an argument for the segregation of British Jews on the grounds that "the Catholic Church is the conservator of an age-long European tradition and that tradition will never compromise with the fiction that a Jew can be other than a Jew." Even in the context of pre-Hitlerian "passive" antisemitism it was and remains a foul little book albeit one that needs reading. SINGERMAN Antisemitic Propaganda 0129. Houghton Mifflin unknown

1920ref. 84198Long Beach: Women's Non-Partisan Propaganda Committee ca 1920. Leaflet 19cm x 14cm 7-1/2" x 5-1/2". Bifolium 4pp; cover illustration; 2pp of text rear page with imprint only. Near Fine. A plea to California women voters to support America's entry to the League of Nations. The cover graphic portrays a WW1 doughboy missing both his legs being carried into his home by a pair of mates. The interior text argues that the League of Nations at this time being actively opposed by the Republican majority in Congress was the only sure path to preventing a repeat of the horrors of the Great War. An interesting and fairly early attempt to mobilize the women's vote; equal suffrage had been granted in California in 1911. Rare; not separately catalogued in OCLC nor do we locate any other catalogued material produced by this organization. Women's Non-Partisan Propaganda Committee unknown
