1894réf. 1912076Hagerstown: The Weekly Globe 1894. First Edition. Soft cover. Good. 1st printing. Folio news folded to 17" x 24". Dated Hagerstown April 26 1894. The article which takes up 8" of column space in the middle of the front page and is datelined at Guthrie O. T. on April 21 continues in 3rd & 4th headlines: "SOME OF THE BANDITS ESCAPE: It Is Said That Three of the Band Were Left Behind Fatally Wounded and That Two of the Marshal's sic Posse Were Killed and Three Wounded." This is surely a reference to the gun battle at Ingalls which took place the previous fall Sept. 1 1893 in which three lawmen were killed. In this article the fight took place near Ingalls at the house of Bruce Miller and lasted all day long with "volley after volley" being exchanged. Reviewing Oklahoma outlaw and lawman historian Glenn Shirley's books we see reference to a battle of this nature at this time and no reference to Miller. Nevertheless a very scarce paper and perhaps an anomaly for historians to study. Good condition flexible paper with brittleness at the edges which have several tears & minor chipping. The Weekly Globe unknown

1911réf. xxx010Spokane: n.p. 1911. Soft cover. Good. Original cord-tied student-created "tablet" of flower paintings in color and pencil drawings. School "copy work" would be the genre. Tall 6" x 9". The name "Emma" is on some of the leaves. At bottom of the hand-decorated cover is in strong pencil hand "April 28. Alcott School / Miss Slater Teacher / Miss Fern Myers Subt." At the top in bold upper case letters is "SPRING TERM. / 1911." Along the perimeter of the cover is a double line of dashes nicely intersecting at the corners. The twelve leaves are a combination of pencil drawings and beautiful flower paintings. I am uncertain of the medium as it doesn't quite look like watercolor. Most leaves are dated. About Alcott School from Dept of Archeology and Historic Preservation: YESTERDAY: The original Alcott School was first identified as the Carnhope School and was known to be in existence as early as 1893. With the consolidation of the school into the Spokane School District in 1914 the name was changed to Alcott Elementary School in honor of popular children's novelist Louisa May Alcott. In 1949 with student population at a record high surplus war buildings were moved from Geiger Field to the school where they were used to accommodate the growing student population. This school was closed in 1955 due to development of the I90 freeway and a new school was built on Eighth Avenue. The original school building was demolished and a portable auditorium structure was later added to the site of the 1955 eightroom frame structure. TODAY: The school was one of nine elementary schools closed in 1972 due to a levy failure. It was later used for school instructional and administration offices. Today the Instructional Media Center IMC continues to occupy the building which provides space for a textbook depository bookmending services and a film library. A nice little item from an earlier time of education in Washington State not unlike any other state in the early 20th century. Good condition with pages/sheet flexible but should still be considered fragile. n.p. unknown

He came to Sonora as a young man and spent eleven very active years among the Pima Opata and Eudebe Indians before the expulsion of the Society forced his departure. Subsequent to the expulsion Pfefferkorn with a number of his companions was held captive in Spain under suspicion of treason. 1879réf. xxx018Truckee: Crowley & McGlashan 1879. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 1st printing. Rebound in blue cloth with original decorative cover fabric of both boards and spine laid on. About one-half of the gilt title on spine is visible and can be read. 193pp. Decorative vignettes at top and end of each chapter. Rebound with new endpapers and adjacent blank leaves. The major flaw in this copy is that the title page was torn off entirely from about 1" in from the gutter to the gutter. It was reattached with tape and the tape is a six sixteenth 6/16" track running vertically at slightly different angles on the sheet. Photo available. I have priced this copy accordingly. Laid in is the bindery company's receipt Yakima WA. It was rebound in 1993 for $9.19 tax included. A tight copy now. The original laid on fabric is an attractive uniformly near royal blue on a new blue binding. Rocq California Local History #6004; Howes Mc102 "Best account of the most harrowing of all overland disasters."; Graff/Colton 2610 "The ordeal of the Donner Party is one of the most memorable events in the history of overland narratives.".
