Oblong folio olive buckram titled "News Events 1939" on spine really large photos much larger than your regular news service 8x10s measuring 13.5 x 11 inches on resin coated paper binding shows some wear about nine photos have some light damage to lower far left margin probably reparable but the vast majority are in very good or better condition with usual age toning striking photos of the war as well as domestic photos of events back home. RARE: OCLC records the Cincinnati Public Library as having "boxes" of photos from this company 1939-1945 425 photos and that's it. Some very dramatic photos hardly any that can be considered art and stitch-bound along left margin. Dispatch Photo News Service hardcover

There are two splits of about 4" each along folds of the folding map; a little splitting to the rear inner hinge and the slightest of use to the leather. . About 20 x 12-1/2 inches folding to 16mo. 1910réf. 8830London: George Philip & Son c. 1910. Folding map 50 x 61 cm printed in colours black and white map of the tramways on the verso folding into worn buff printed card wraps. A map sponsored by the Evening News published in various editions c. 1907-1910. Later editions of the map like this one which was in circulation until at least 1910 were printed with black rather than blue text and folded into buff rather than red covers. The earliest issue anticipated the colour coding of lines on official UERL maps by several months. The Evening News was responsible for coining the name Bakerloo Line for the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway and here the newspaper makes a relatively early reference to the 'tube' a nickname coined for the new deep-level tunnels. The cover graphically illustrates the construction of the tunnels divided into seven sections to represent the seven companies operating 'tube' trains. Map George Philip & Son paperback

Each is captioned with explanation of the significant event pictured and most have dates. The first photogaph has two light diagonal creases but all are in very good condition. 19 x 26cm. Text in simplified Chinese characters. These photographs were taken between 1921 and 1990 and depict a careful selection of significant news events of the time; conferences meetings between Chinese statesmen and world leaders military and political campaigns and markers of technological and economic progress. Included are a mix of popular and less well-known images from the Communist Party's history concluding with the 7th Plenary Session of the Party's 13th Central Committee in December 1990 at which the 8th Five-Year Plan was adopted. A common theme throughout the set is the recurring presence of Deng Xiaoping through the years ostensibly to highlight his dedication to the Party. His presence starts with his activities as a guerrilla in the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1938 his leading role at the Party's 8th Congress in 1956 and the Seven Thousand Cadres Conference in 1962 his launching of the Reform and Opening Up policy in 1978 and meeting with Margaret Thatcher in 1984 to discuss the handover of Hong Kong. .
