2019New English Original bdg. HC. 4to. (31 x 22 cm). In English. 232 p., color ills. With a DVD. Hierapolis di Frigia XIII: Virtual Hierapolis. Virtual Archaeology and Restoration Project, (2007-2015) (with DVD). This new volume in the series dedicated to Hierapolis presents the results of an ambitious project concerning the 3D reconstructions of its main monuments and the virtual restoration of the artefacts and pictorial and mosaic decorations, present above all in the houses of the city's aristocracy. Some of these items have already been described in previous publications, but in this volume, together with hitherto unseen images, they are part of the Virtual Tour of the city, which can also be experienced via on-line and off-line platforms, choosing from three different visitor itineraries. As well as the specific need to study the ancient architecture by means of 3D virtual reconstructions, the creation of the Virtual Tour of Hierapolis provides an answer to the questions posed by the rising number of tourists, which now exceeds two million a year, placing the city, together with Ephesus, among the most popular archaeological sites in Turkey. These reconstructions proved to be highly effective communication tools, enabling the viewing public to understand the appearance of the ancient buildings. Some of these virtual reconstructions were published in 2009 in the leaflet on Virtual Hierapolis, distributed to scholars and visitors. M. Limoncelli was a constant presence in the MAIER in those years, but it was only during his Research Doctorate at the Sacro Cuore Catholic University in Milan, in the years 2013-2016, that his Project was systematically fulfilled. 2019New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In English. 325 p., color ills. The Carians overseas: Egypt - Iran - Israel. THE CARIANS OVERSEAS is a documentary project, which follows the traces and documents the remains of the Carians, who, starting from the 10th BC, have worked in Egypt, Iran and Israel either as mercenaries or stonemasons. Being among the first settlers of the region of Southwest Anatolia, the Carians raised the world's first women admirals Artemisia I and Artemisia II, bequeathed us the Maussolleion, the monumental tomb of King Mausolus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, offered the word "mausoleum" to world literature and preserved their culture and traditions for thousands of years. Based on the geographical features of their land, they lived either on the mainland, the islands or in locations overseas. They were known as good soldiers, fearless sailors and pirates with advanced warrior skills. Ancient Egyptian sources describe the Carians, who went to Egypt to work, as "men of bronze coming from the sea". According to Herodotus of Halicarnassus, the Carians had created the tradition of fixing a handle to a shield, fastening a crest and a tassel on the helmet and adorning and painting the shield. In ancient Persian sources, the Carians are referred to as people serving in the Persian army and navy, who were, besides their warrior character, skilled stonemasons, artisans, craftsmen and qualified in handling heavy goods. Being one of the most interesting civilizations of Anatolia, the Carians have proved their existence in the countries they have been, by inscribing their initials on stones in the Carian language and thus leaving important information regarding the places where they have lived, camped as well as their expedition routes. Following the traces of the Carians in Egypt, Iran and Israel and documenting their remains in museums and archaeological sites despite great difficulty, THE CARIANS OVERSEAS is an important source, for both the information it contributes to Carian archaeology and the research stories in its content.

Kitap bir sozluk ve secilmis kaynakca ile sona eriyor. This is one of the first guidebooks for the general public to deal with the Byzantine and Turkish archaeology of an ancient town. Following 50 years of excavation by the Italian Archaeological Mission in close collaboration with the Turkish authorities, it is now possible to describe and illustrate the post-classical remains of Hierapolis of Phrygia. The book first explores a number of themes, from the changing environment to religion and agriculture, as well as discussing objects that illustrate day to day life in the medieval town. An itinerary then guides the visitor to the site with detailed information on things to be seen, from the monumental remains of the cathedral, the shrine of St. Philip and the castle, to more humble tenth century Byzantine houses and the remains of early Turkish farms on the hills above the town. The book concludes with a glossary and a select bibliography.

Continuity and change: New approaches to legacy data in archaeology.= Süreklilik ve degisim: Miras veriye yeni yaklasimlar. Sempozyum bildirileri: Ankara, 29 Nisan 2016. Research on regional studies in archaeology has accelerated in the past 20 years and changed the archaeological discourse in a fundamental way. This recent perspective influenced the archaeological perception favorably in terms of evaluating the settlements with a holistic view, assessment of central places with their rural territories that cannot be separated from each other. The idea of organizing a symposium on this subject comes from our belief in the importance of removing ourselves of the understanding resulting from handling the settlement in Anatolian archeology for a long period of time, stripped from its dynamics and our belief in the importance of presenting new researches. Our department, Settlement Archaeology Program in METU was founded in 2000 mainly for filling the gap in Anatolian archaeology with the viewpoint of interdisciplinary studies and regional studies in archaeology. Studies at regional scale are recently integrated to archaeological projects in our country, yet produced important results. The main goal of this symposium is to provide a discussion ground for young scholars who carry out archaeological studies at regional scale and share various perspectives and results yielded by regional studies in Anatolia. - The 2000 discovery of a treasure trove at Becin (by what today is Milas in southwest-Turkey) includes just under 50,000 Islamic and about 800 European coins in the greatest hoard that has ever been found in Turkey as part of regular archaeological excavation. It is at the same time also the largest Ottoman treasure of coins ever discovered. This volume presents the results of archaeological, historical, economic and numismatic analysis, which were developed by a Turkish and Austrian research team. The large number of Ottoman coins allows for an unprecedented understanding of the subtlety of Ottoman embossing in the late 16th and early 17th Centuries. On this basis the source value of the coin for Ottoman economic and administrative history will be revolutionized. Also, for the numismatic study of the Ottoman Empire's embossing of coins, this volume will be a pioneering work. German text. "It is generally accepted that debasement greatly contributed to the economic and conse-quently also social problems of the Ottoman Empire in the late 16th/early 17th century. The numismatic data derived from the Beçin coin hoard, closing under sultan Ahmed (1603-1617) greatly challenges this view. Metal analysis has shown that only the overall weights of the coins were reduced; the ?neness of silver remained unchanged at least until the 1610s.". A silver Seldjoucide coin unknown until now Djimri Sultan Siyavush.= Une monnaie Seldjoucide Djimri inconnue jusqu'ici.= Simdiye kadar görülmiyen Cimri sikkesi. (Selchuk Sultan Alâeddin Siyavush, b. 1277) 'Djimri' according to the writings of Osman Ferid Saglam, the word 'Cimri' is used as a synonym for 'ephony-sultan'. Yazicioglu Ali, in his book entitled 'Tevârih-i Âl-i Selçuk' (No: 1390, Revan Library, the Topkapi Palace) argues that Cimri was not a name attributed to a vagabond who had claimed that he was Siyavus bin Izzeddin, but a derisive adjective used for him by pro-Seljuk historians. The actual meaning of the word is 'ordinary', or 'III-bred', or 'one who has sprung up from anywhere'.
