A limited edition of The Memoirs of Joseph Fouché: Duke Of Otranto Minister of the General Police of France printed from the revised second edition published by Charles Knight in 1921. This copy is one of five hundred printed. In the publisher's original blue cloth with an engraved frontispiece of Fouché by L. Wolff with the other four plates missing. A fascinating character from French history Joseph Fouché's Memoirs offer insight into his intelligence and cunning including how he retained his status as the Minister of the General Police of France under Napoleon's reign. He is best remembered for his power his brutal suppression of the Lyon insurrection during the Revolution in 1793. In the publisher's original blue cloth. Externally fading and browning to spine and the odd browning patch to boards. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities with slight bruising to rear board edges. Dark green end papers are mostly clean with a couple of faint browning marks and slight wear to end paper hinges. Internally generally firmly bound with plates missing. Library stamps to frontispiece and to verso title leaf and first and final leaf of author's preface. Pages are mostly bright and clean with the odd spot to first and final leaves. Good William W.
