réf. 17260'Reprinted from "The Maritime Review."' No place or date but during the reign of King George V. 2pp. 4to. Printed on the same side of one piece of shiny art paper folded to make a bifolium. Aged and stained with wear and slight loss to extremities. Photograph of Russell beneath title alongside 'Sonnet To W. Clark Russell' reprinted 'From "English Sea Pictures." By Julia D. Young Author of "Barham Beach the President's Poem." - New York.' The author laments that 'in this country it is not the fashion to ennoble those who really do something for their time and generation' such as Russell whose 'stupendous output' consists of 'fifty-seven books everyone sic of them good'. The article concludes: 'Of a surety is such a hero a national asset and the more we think of the subject the greater is our admiration for that skipper of Calcutta who first called our attention to the fact. May the fates be kinder to the stricken writer and may he long be spared to wield his able pen. The nation can better spare many more-advertised and gaudily-decorated patriots than can it Mr. W. Clark Russell - a citizen of the universal world.' No other copy of this offprint traced either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC. 'Reprinted from "The Maritime Review."' No place or date (but during the reign of King George V). unknown

CONTENTS: Why I Am A Jew; Israel Lost; Israel Found Again; Israel Everlasting. Fleg (1874-1963) was a French poet, playwright, and librettist. Though he was not very committed to Judaism in his early life, the Dreyfus Affair and early Zionist Congresses returned him to the faith. After early popular literary successes, including the French scripts for Faust and Julius Ceasar, Fleg devoted his efforts to examining modern Judaism, and from the 1920s on, was a leader in French Jewish literature, writing biographies, poetry, and essays.
