1930réf. 004303Los Angeles: The Biltmore Hotel 1930. Good. Card stock sign with decorative blue string n. d. 1930s ; 3 1/2 x 4 3/4; off-white paper printed in black and decorated with an ornate decorative border; a bit of age-toning and some rippling to upper half; in about good condition. Though there is no definitive answer as to when "Do Not Disturb" sign were first employed the general opinion is that they became popular in the early-20th century most probably in prestigious hotels first as they sought to offer discretion and privacy to their guests. This particular one reading: "Please Do Not Disturb. The Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles" was used in the iconic hotel which after opening its doors in 1923 awould become THE gathering place for the Hollywood elite during the latter's Golden Age in the 1920s and 1930s. This would be where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would be formed and the first Academy Awards ceremonies would be hosted. The Biltmore Hotel unknown books
