1900réf. 5827Algeria: S.P. c.1900–1910. Miniature leporello of six gelatin silver photographs each c. 20 × 17 mm joined concertina-fashion c. 125 mm extended. Each image is captioned in print: "Un Caïd" "Musicienne Kabyle" "Danse du ventre" "Marchand d'étoffes" "Type de Mauresque" and "Mauresque". A charming survival of the tourist trade in colonial Algeria. Strips of this kind were sold as souvenirs usually in a small hinged white-metal case worn on a watch chain and reproduce in miniature the studio "types" popularised by Algerian postcard publishers. Few survive being easily lost or discarded. Without its case. The leporello is in very good condition holding together well. Blank on verso a little darkened. Folds are sound. Cf. Malek Alloula Le Harem colonial 1981. . Cf. Malek Alloula Le Harem colonial 1981. S.P. unknown
