réf. 979524 color-printed panels with 12 illus. & 12 panels of love poems on verso on reverse 20 erotic color-printed panels pasted-in. Miniature book 48 x 50 mm. orig. color-printed pictorial boards with color-printed endpapers. Japan: n.d. A very rare example of a miniature shunga book color-printed on the one side with a conventional but rather "suggestive" series of love poems and on the reverse with a series of 20 erotic prints pasted-in. Each of these erotic prints has a medallion with a gently erotic title. There is no author title place of publication or date for this rare object. We suspect that it was printed in the late Edo period. Fine copy a little thumbed. unknown
1986réf. 34993Charlestown MA: Emporium Publications ca 1986. One of 250 numbered copies. With a drawing accompanying each letter printed on rectos only. 32mo in the original bright red cloth gilt lettered and ruled on the upper cover in gilt in the original glassine jacket. 54. As new both book and jacket are pristine. ONE OF ONLY 250 NUMBERED COPIES! E. Helene Sherman has a devoted following among collectors of calligraphy and miniature books. She is better described as a calligrapher and illuminator than as a conventional book illustrator. In this work she brings us such recognizable landmarks as The New England Aquarium for the letter A the Customs House Tower for the letter C Haymarket Square for the letter H and the Museum of Science for the letter M. The artist lived and worked in Watertown Massachusetts and her work was associated with Boston’s arts-and-crafts tradition. ABC’s of Boston is especially appealing in that it occupies a niche between a children’s alphabet book and a fine press artist’s book. It is a charming piece of Bostoniana but its real significance lies in the craftsmanship. Emporium Publications hardcover

réf. 53120London: D. Bogue 86 Fleet Street Tilt And Bogue Harrild Printer 1856 . A very good miniature Almanack in the original crimson morocco wrap-round wallet style binding. 6.3cm x 3.6cm x 0.4cm. All page edges gilt 32pp. VG. "David Bogue started life on 16 October 1808 in East Lothian as the son of Jacob Bogue a farmer and Ann Johnston. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Biography he became the assistant of Thomas Ireland a bookseller in Edinburgh but moved to London in 1836 to work for Charles Tilt. Tilt had his shop at 86 Fleet Street and specialised in illustrated books and lithographic prints. The 1851 census found the Bogue family at 76 Camden Road. The census papers for 86 Fleet Street tell us that no person sleeps on premises. David died in November 1856 of heart disease aged just 48.2 His name still appeared in the tax records and in imprints in 1857 and 1858 as the executors tried to keep the place going with the help of Charles Tilt but by 1859 most of Bogues copyrights and stock as well as the shop had been taken over by William Kent his name is listed in the Land Tax records for 1860." - See David Bogue bookseller and publisher by Baldwin Hamey 2017. 2005réf. ST20505-13Santa Cruz California: Peter and Donna Thomas 2005. No. 37 OF 126 COPIES. 75 x 50 mm. 3 x 2". 2 p.l. 23 1 pp. 1 leaf. Tan paper with a paper label over a 17th century printed fragment. WITH THREE LEAVES FROM MINIATURE BOOKS: one leaf from the "thumb Bible" "History of the Bible" New London: W & J Bolles 1831; one from "The Shakespeare Glossary" Glasgow: Bryce Stokes 1904; and one from "Dew-Drops" New York City: American Tract Society ca. 1847. With an additional fragment of a larger leaf tipped in at the front. As new. This delightful entirely handmade production features a list of miniature leaf books and three original leaves from miniature books published between 1831-1904. Since the 1970s our collaborating husband-and-wife book artists Peter and Donna Thomas have been making paper printing with a hand press and hand binding books. The present book was assembled between 1997-2005 and then printed the Thomases humorously tell us "on a cranky old Pearl treadle press" using Joe Halton's linotype and Neuland types. All paper was handmade by Peter Thomas; as an artistic choice by the bookmakers the endpapers include fragments of paper from the 1686 book "Keble's Reports" the same work from which the fragments on the cover and frontispiece originate. The three leaves included here provide an excellent representation of the charming miniature books of the 19th century. They include a leaf from a "Thumb Bible" the miniature volumes containing biblical excerpts that enjoyed considerable popularity during the period; a leaf from an "Ellen Terry" book issued by Glasgow printer David Bryce Jr. who produced these books using the relatively new technology of photographic reduction and named them after the most famous actress of the day; and an American example produced by the non-denominational American Tract Society which published several miniature religious books through the mid-19th century. This publication is made especially charming by its size which of course is entirely appropriate for the volume's contents. Peter and Donna Thomas unknown
