He explains that he has sung 'at Hanover Square Rooms on Monday – at Cambridge last night and after travelling to-day and his exertion of this evening with an early entertaintment sic tomorrow before him – an immediate retirement to rest after this evenings exertion is indispensible'. Consequently he must 'content himself with the Hotel of Bury – instead of enjoying the honor of the hospitality of Hardwicke sic'. He hopes that 'Sir Thomas will assure Mr. Petre how sensible Mr Lover is of the honor of his invitation but as Mr. Lover is obliged on his days of public engagement to dine very early and very sparingly he cannot have the pleasure of being made Mr. Petre's guest'. 26 February 1845; Bell Hotel, Bury St Edmunds. unknown

The lines have been translated into German French &c.' The news of the family the de Witte named has made her 'heart ache' and as Costello is sure she and her 'kind Mamma do something to help them' she asks her to 'let them have the enclosed trifle. It is nothing but being unexpected and sure to be useful in some way may be acceptable'. She asks her to 'say nothing about it to any one – as it is of no Consequence and I coul dnot offer it except with other Contributions'. She will 'look for the Scandinavian poetry & may find it. Longfellow gives some in his Poets of Europe'. She ends in hopes of hearing 'better news of colds &c'. 'Friday Evg'. No place or date. unknown

She continues with more business talk before concluding with a discussion of politics attacking the Labour government as an 'extravagant incompetent horde'.
