The illustrations color frontispiece 9 color plates with tissue-guards intact a title-page drawing and chapter-head line drawings feature lots of nekkid ladies Ms. Tice's specialty and bear captions along the lines of "She smiled with her legs as she spoke with her torso." This is stated on the limitation page to be one of "1250 copies of which 990 are for America." Although one is usually well-advised to take the professed numbers on these vintage-erotica items with a grain of salt what makes this one especially interesting though is that instead of a number written into the blank space below the statement the single word "presentation" is inked; in addition on the half-title page is a 3-inch-tall original drawing of yet another nudie that is SIGNED by Clara Tice. Vergil’s ten eclogues made their young author a renowned figure when they were first made public in approximately 39 b.c.e. Although these poems do not reach the heights of the Georgics c. 37-29 b.c.e. or the Aeneid c. 29-19 b.c.e. they are the work of a master not the hesitant stumblings of an apprentice writer. Vergil made the pastoral form first popularized by Theocritus his own and paved the way for many English poets who imitated him among them Edmund Spenser Philip Sidney John Milton Percy Bysshe Shelley and Matthew Arnold. Slipcase with scratching water stains and a paint stain. Interior with faint damp stains to gutters at interior font and back covers.
