The Minoan town at Gournia flourished from the Early Bronze Age until its destruction at the end of the Late Minoan IB period. It was later resettled before being abandoned again in LM IIIB. The town was substantial, with houses arranged in irregular blocks. This book presents the pottery found during Gournia's excavation in 1901, 1903 and 1904. This collection, now in The University Museum, University of Pennsylvania, is the largest and most important group of Minoan objects from a single site outside of Europe. ; University Museum Monograph 72.; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall; 111 pages

1894Issued (by subscription). Sixty original parts. Complete. Magazine-format. Large 8vo. 195 x 270 mm. Numerous woodcut illustrations. This set is generally in wonderful condition. A great monument to the variety of lands in the British Victorian Empire. Books in parts are works which were published piecemeal (mainly in the 19th century) over a period of months or years. Each unit usually having a separate magazine-like cover. This method of publishing benefited the publisher as it was thought that the price of a weekly or monthly part at 6 pence or a quarter was affordable to a wider readership than the price of pound sterling or $ 5.00 for a bound volume. They also qualified for mailing at a cheaper rate. Since they were meant to be bound by the purchaser, very few have survived into our present era. This set is extremely scarce in such well preserved parts format. This edition apparently not in the Arents Collection at the New York Public Library. SCARCE. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! (1957). PARTS 4
