La moda moderna che la haute couture inaugura, non poteva non avere anche una sua concezione sul mantello animale. Out of The Jungle. L'immaginario animale nella moda è la prima mostra dedicata a questo tema specifico, cioè alle diverse elaborazioni del manto e delle forme animali. Da quando Christian Dior, ha creato i celebri abiti Africaine e Jungle, nomi che rivelano appieno le radici nell'esotismo imperialista europeo di fine secolo, e che per questo abbiamo assunto come sorta di antenato totemico, l'animalier ha assunto diverse fisionomie, fino all'attuale caleidoscopio di forme e colori presenti in mostra. Jungle, L'immaginario animale nella moda è il catalogo dell'omonima mostra che inaugura l'11 aprila a La reggia di Venaria Reale, a Torino. Accompagnato dai testi critici di M. Bobbioni, P. Calefato, V. Caratozzolo, C. Corbetta, L. Gallo Orsi, S. Gnoli, A. Mancinelli, F. Muzzarelli, L. Scarlini, S. Segre Reinach questo volume getta le basi per una storicizzazione dell'evoluzione del fenomeno animalier nella moda e, di conseguenza, nel nostro immaginario collettivo. L'uomo ha sempre avuto la pulsione a ricoprirsi di pelli di animali, un po' per emulare la loro forza, un po' per vanità o per i più disparati motivi. L'animalier a oggi ha perso gran parte del significato originario di trasgressione ed erotismo. Lo reinterpretano in modo anarchico e discontinuo sia i grandi stilisti, sia i marchi del pronto moda. È diventato uno staple, cioè un basico del guardaroba, come le righe da marinaio, i pois, la camicia bianca e il tubino nero. Il progetto di street style, a complemento della mostra, con le fotografie prese dalla strada, testimonia l'ubiquità dell'animalier. Eppure, rispetto ad altri classici della moda, l'animalier conserva una sua grammatica compositiva particolare e una sua irriducibilità alla banalizzazione.
