Max Gérard discusses ten celebrated wines including Romanée-Conti Château d'Yquem Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the great red Bordeaux. Louis Orizet contributes a more fanciful classification of the 'Ten Wines of Gala' organised around qualities such as joy sensuality light and the impossible. Further sections survey the wines and vineyards of the world. Dalí also reworks fifteenth-century miniatures and nineteenth-century French Academic imagery alongside illustrations created expressly for the book. Dedicated to Gala his wife and muse the work extends his exploration of gastronomy in Les Dîners de Gala 1973 treating wine as a subject of connoisseurship sensual pleasure and artistic invention. Its lavish colour illustrations and elaborate production place it among Dalí's notable illustrated books appealing to collectors of Surrealism wine literature and gastronomic publishing. A desirable illustrated work of gastronomic and Surrealist interest Harry N Abrams unknown
