The Renaissance sculptor and master goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini is known as much for his Autobiography as for his art. Self-aggrandizing and partly invented the memoir is a well-written and highly entertaining addition to the Western canon. Both Cellini's artwork and his posthumously published autobiography influenced the Surrealist artist Salvador Dali who more than matched the Renaissance man in bravado famously writing in his own autobiography: "Every morning upon awakening I experience supreme pleasure: that of being Salvador Dali and I ask myself wonderstruck what prodigious thing will he do today this Salvador Dali. This work is from the suite of 80 etchings by Salvador Dali based on Francisco Goya's 18th century series Los Caprichos. Goya's series served as a satirical commentary on Spanish society at the end of the 18th century particularly targeting the nobility and clergy as well as superstitions and irrationality prevalent at the time. In 1977 Dali reproduced the series as heliogravures subsequently reworking each of the plates with Surrealist drypoint additions and stencil colouring. 'Goya was preoccupied with dreams dreamlike states and nightmares - the varying states of consciousness that allowed him to explore allusive subjects. The Caprichos provide the earliest concentrated evidence of Goya's interest in dreams."Truth to life" is the essence of what Goya achieved through his graphic work. His prints and drawings quietly observe confront dissect and reflect the many facets of what it means to be human. Description: "This book is an in-depth study of the three-dimensional works of the great Catalan artist Salvador Dalí. It presents the dreams of a collector Mr Beniamino Levi who created the Stratton Foundation Collection the most important of its kind and depicts one man's quest to bring these works of art to the notice of the public. Mr Levi President of the Stratton Foundation met Salvador Dalí for the first time more than forty years ago. As a major collector and gallery owner specializing in Surrealism he was immediately fascinated by Dalí's sculptural work and realized that this aspect of the artist's oeuvre was not known to the world at large. After a life dedicated to collecting and locating Dalí's works he has assembled an extraordinary collection of sculptural works that he has toured worldwide thus doing much to promote awareness of a major aspect of Dalí's creative genius. Today the Collection is internationally renowned having been seen by more than ten million people around the world and exhibited in over eighty prestigious museums and locations including the Espace Dalí in Paris which houses the only permanent exhibition of Dalí's works in France." -- with a bonus offer--; An in-depth study of the three-dimensional work of Salvador Dal!. . 2011. 8842216658 .
