As the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain was the epicenter of the development of modern industrial design. This book -the fourth volume in the MoMA Design Series, featuring works in the Museum's extraordinary collection- explores this legacy, tracing the growth of British design from the eighteenth century to the Millennium Dome and beyond. In its more than twohundred-year scope, British Design explores Wedgwood pottery, the Arts and Crafts Movement, the Mini car and Dyson vacuum cleaner, the 'Cool Britannia' cultural explosion in the late 1990s, and British designers' take on the digital devices that define entertainment and communication in the early twenty-first century. An introduction by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art, provides an overview of design culture in Great Britain; an essay and timeline by Hugh Aldersey-Williams, author of The Most Beautiful Molecule and New American, illuminate the masterpieces of modern British design superbly reproduced in the volume's plate section. New book.
Hardcover, 392 pages, English, 280 x 225 mm, cover not in good condition, however the book itself is, illustrations in colour and b/w, . ISBN 9781851490905. For the past thirty years this book has, in its various editions, outsold all others on British antique furniture simply because it is unique in explaining what to look for when assessing the value of individual pieces. In this, the fourth edition, additional colour plates have been added to illustrate the huge financial importance of patination and colour -- something which has never before been explained and illustrated but which has become increasingly important in recent years. This classic guide consists of some 1,200 photographs of furniture found in shops and auction rooms throughout the country with the author's down-to-earth comments on important features which affect individual prices. The reader will come to understand the rules and prejudices which apply while the eye will become aware of gradations of quality. He will come instinctively to assess the workmanship and how all this affects the final price tag. This is, above all, a reference book for the practising collector and dealer, a work from which the memory may be refreshed and points checked. Each item is clearly referenced. This enables the annual price revision list to be compiled with a ready cross-reference. The list is available in January/February each year on a private subscription basis and details are contained within the book. This new edition contains both Sterling and US Dollar prices.

2006Gebonden, geillustreerde foto-kartonomslag, 170 x 245mm., 160pp., uitgebreide kleurillustratie. ISBN 9040081921. Nieuw boek.
