1917Very Good Russian Original sheet music. Folio. (33 x 26 cm). In Russian and German. 17 p. Musical scores with fine illustrated cover. Tape on spine. Water stains on pages. Otherwise a good copy. [SHEET MUSIC] Geisha [= Die Geisha]. Muz. Sidney Djonsa (Sidney Jones). (Selection). The Geisha, a story of a tea house is an Edwardian musical comedy in two acts. The score was composed by Sidney Jones to a libretto by Owen Hall, with lyrics by Harry Greenbank. Additional songs were written by Lionel Monckton and James Philp. The Geisha opened in 1896 at Daly's Theatre in London's West End, produced by George Edwardes. The original production had the second longest run of any musical up to that time. The cast starred Marie Tempest and C. Hayden Coffin, with dancer Letty Lind and comic Huntley Wright. The show was an immediate success abroad, with an 1896 production in New York and numerous tours and productions in Europe and beyond. It continued to be popular until World War II and even beyond to some degree. The most famous song from the show is "The Amorous Goldfish". Stmped by A. Comendinger who was a legendary musical publisher in Constantinople in 19th and 20th century. This is a rare Russian Edition. This "selected" edition is not in OCLC.

1877Best.-Nr. 23994Dublin: The Central Tenants' Defense Committee 1877. First printing. Hardcover. Good overall. The trial of returned convict John Sarsfield Casey an activist defender of Irish tenant farmers who earlier in his career wrote letters to Fenian newspapers as 'The Galtee Boy' which were used in his 1865 trial to support a charge of treason and a sentence of transportation to Australia. Casey was one of the 62 Fenians transported to Western Australia. He was granted a free pardon in 1869 and returned to Dublin in 1870. The 1877 trial recorded here was brought against Casey in Ireland by the agent for a wealthy land owner Nathaniel Buckley named Patten Smith Bridge. Bridge had imposed enormous rent increases on the Galtee Mountain tenant farmers; he alleged that Casey's articles to the press about the excessive rent increases had libeled him. Huge rents increases and the inability of farmers to pay resulted in whole families being thrown out of their homes; Casey knew these facts from personal experience as some of these tenants were his relatives. The trial lasted 8 days; Bridge's claim for damages against Casey was repudiated. 8vo vii 98pp. Deaccessed by the NY Association of the Bar Library with their stamp on the title page. 1979Best.-Nr. 27309Salt Lake City:: University of Utah Press 1979. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Fine unclipped dust jacket. Hervey Johnson of Hillsboro Ohio was a private in the 11th Ohio Cavalry stationed in the mid-1860s at a string of small posts along the Sweetwater River from Independence Rock to South Pass 100 miles to the west. Their main duty was to protect the line of the transcontinental telegraph—“the line” he calls it here. Frequently the line was cut by American Indian tribesmen; often large portions of the line were carried away to make it more difficult to repair During his three years in the Army Johnson wrote about 100 letters home to his sisters and mother in Ohio. The family were Quakers so he often uses the pronouns “thee” and “thy” instead of “you” and “your.” From various sources at the time he heard about the July 25 1865 battle at Platte Bridge Station. At the time he wrote this letter Johnson was stationed at a post on the Sweetwater near Independence Rock about 55 miles west of Platte Bridge which he generally refers to here as “the Bridge.” University of Utah Press, unknown
