An appealing collection of 11 religious tracts chiefly Scottish imprints of the 1790s including two apparently unrecorded Edinburgh editions: Ambrose Serle's The Way to Be Happy in a Miserable World 1799 and the anonymous A Message from God unto Thee 1798 the latter comprising 12 pages. Among the most interesting works is the first edition of Thomas Scott's A Vindication of the Divine Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures 1796 written in response to Thomas Paine's Age of Reason. Also of interest is Alexander Webster's Divine Influence 1742 defending the religious revival at Cambuslang together with James Alexander Haldane's account of his evangelical tour through northern Scotland and the Orkney Isles 1798. A complete list of the 11 tracts with imprints edition statements and bibliographical references is available on request. Duodecimo 178 x 102 mm.
