réf. 019930Philippe de Vendôme (1655-1727), grand prieur de l'ordre de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem, militaire. L.A.S., Clichy, 10 octobre 1705, 3p 1/2 in-4.

2015New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Oblong 4to. (30 x 34 cm). In English, Turkish, and Arabic. [12], 223, [1] p., color and b/w photos. Jerusalem in photographs from past to present.= Fotograflarla dünden bugüne Kudüs. Photographs (old); IRCICA archives. Photographs (new); Khaled Zaghari. Project managers; Halit Eren, Sefer Turan. This album was published within the framework of the 40th anniversary commemoration of the OIC, which has the problem of al-Quds and Palestine as its foremost cause. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the OIC, wrote the Foreword. As he mentions, preservation of the multicultural character of the city with due respect of the populations and the shrines of each faith is an indispensable part of any acceptable solution of the problem. This character is well reflected in the authentic photographs in the album. Due to its special importance, al-Quds/Jerusalem was visited and described by many travelers. Then, the region became the first place of interest of the pioneer photographers. The Ottoman Palace was among the first in the world to acquire photographs of the region. The Yildiz photograph collection which was formed during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II contains a large number of them. The album contains the reproductions of 405 photographs gathered from IRCICA's archive comprising the Yildiz Photograph Albums and several other collections. A very heavy volume. Extra shipping fee will be able to request.
1920réf. List1734Jerusalem 1920. Silver gelatin photographs measuring 11 ½ x 9 ¼ inches hand colored. Some light normal wear near fine overall quite attractive and suitable for framing. Fine. The American Colony in Jerusalem started by 1881 by members of a Christian utopian society led by Anna and Horatio Spafford of Chicago developed in the next fifty years into one of the primary photographic historians of the city prior to Zionism. The Spaffords were joined by the Swedish American and Swedish-American Christians. They eventually moved into the former residence of Rabbah Effendi al-Husseini who served as an official during the Ottoman era. The building is the site of the current American Colony hotel. Collected here are seven hand-colored photographs taken and sold during their period of prolific output. They are particularly well preserved examples showing the group's skill for hand coloring. Little is known about the photographers themselves or their processes and the group's history continues to be delineated by curator Rachel Lev who has housed their archive in one of the colony's outbuildings. Original examples of the group's work are not terribly common on the market despite their important role in documenting the region during this period. unknown

1947réf. 383071947. JUDAICAZIONISM. Kriath Kodesh Call to Yeshiva Students. Jerusalem: Kislev 1947-48. Broadside measures 10 by 13-1/2 inches printed on recto. $1800.1947 Jerusalem Orthodox broadside against the Zionists who wish to uproot the Torah illustrative of the conflicts among Zionists and other factions in Jerusalem just prior to the creation of the state of Israel. This broadside states that it is the scholars of Torah who are the Neturei Karta the protectors of the city. The forces which were contending over the nature of the new society were divided into three broad groups Socialist Zionists known as the Histadrut middle-class elements anti-Socialist Revisionists and the Orthodox who could not imagine a Jewish presence in the land which did not exemplify the values and practices of the religious tradition Encyclopaedia Judaica. These three factions came to maturity as the Zionist settlement in Palestine increased tenfold from roughly 60000 in 1919 to 600000 in the 1940s. This broadside goes on to claim Whomever has any relationship with the Zionists-even enlisting in the Haganah-becomes a partner in actions against Judaism. Orthodox elements were dedicated to the building of an institutional power base for religious Jews so that they could compete as equals with the other groups and provide equal opportunity in the new country for those who shared the Orthodox religious faith. This body of opinion was deeply concerned that the total temper of the Jewish community should not be secularized. They did not want to become a religious ghetto in a non-religious Jewish society and they believed that it was their duty to bring religion even to those who opposed it The struggle between the Socialist and the middle-class elements in Israels society has been muted in the generation of statehood for a mixed economy now prevails. The conflict over religion and its relationship to public life has if anything become sharper within the sovereign parliamentary life of the Jewish state Encyclopaedia Judaica. Text in Hebrew. Faint fold lines. Fine condition. Scarce. unknown
