The American clergyman and academic William Adams 1807-1880 was ordained as pastor of the Congregational Church in Brighton Massachusetts in 1831. He subsequently went on to take over ministry at the Central Presbyterian Church on Broome Street in New York City. The American biblical scholar Moses Stuart 1780-1852 was admitted to the Connecticut bar after graduating from Yale University. He became pastor of the Congregational Center Church of New Haven in 1806 and in 1810 was appointed professor of sacred literature at Andover Theological Seminary. Despite having but elementary knowledge of Hebrew and Greek he prepared a Hebrew grammar for his students which went on to be published in an enlarged form in 1821 with a copious syntax and praxis. He became acquainted with the German works in hermeneutics of Johann Friedrich Schleusner Seiler and Gesenius teaching himself German. Though his studies evoked suspicion from his colleagues he gained their respect as a result of his "Letter to Dr Channing on the Subject of Religious Liberty" in 1830. He published a second edition of his "Hints on the Interpretation of Prophecy" in 1842. New York: John F. Trow, Printer, 1852. paperback

The notorious David Berg 1919 - 1994 founded a Christian cult in 1968 originally known as "Teens for Christ" later "Children of God " and currently "The Family International." Finding adherents among counterculture youth in Southern California Berg promoted the concept of "Flirty Fishing" defined by the Urban Dictionary as "a form of religious prostitution practiced by the Children of God from 1974 until it was officially discontinued in 1987 due in part to the AIDS scare. Its etymology can be traced to Matthew 4:19 where Jesus says "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." Children of God books

1973ref. 605416London: Children of God 1973. Unbound. Very Good. First edition. 24mo. One sheet folded twice. Stains and a few small creases very good. Moses a.k.a. David Berg was the founder and leader of the Children of God cult which at its height of popularity reached tens of thousands of members including River and Joaquin Phoenix and Rose McGowan. In 1976 Berg encouraged followers to use a method of evangelism he termed "Flirty Fishing" which used sexual intimacy to attract men to the cult who would otherwise not be open to it. After ex-members accused the group of decades of abuse a British court found the group to be an authoritarian cult which "engaged in the systematic physical and sexual abuse of children." Berg sent out approximately 3000 "Mo Letters" on various subjects to communicate with his followers. This one addresses the "white devils" and calls on his "Sons of All Colours" for more diversity in carrying on the Revolution for Jesus. Mo Letter No. 105. Children of God unknown
