Voge was the editor of the early influential The Climber’s Guide to the Sierra Nevada published by the Sierra Club and professionally a PhD chemist who worked for Shell. Farquhar was likewise an accomplished mountain climber as well as an environmentalist historian of California bibliographer and fine press bibliophile among other roles. He served for several years as the president of the Sierra Club. There's a mountain named for him in Kings Canyon National Park. This is his classic and best known book.
