"The medical school of Alexandria . exerted a profound influence in all the countries of the Near East. The great Byzantine doctors invariably pursued their studies in the capital of Egypt before establishing themselves in Constantinople . Archaeological diggings in the ancient site of Upper Egypt have brought to light many fragments of Greek and Coptic papyrus; we can merely surmise that the studies of the great doctors of Alexandria were known in the country and that the medical works of the Hippocratic school of Galen and of Soranus were read" foreword. privately printed at the Riverside Press unknown books
