Only edition. This single-volume collection of Scottish statutes acts as a direct continuation of Sir John Skene's landmark 1597 compilation The Lawes and Actes of Parliament. Printed in Edinburgh by Thomas Finlason-who succeeded Robert Waldegrave as King's Printer-this work codifies the primary legislation passed during a critical transitional era in British legal history. The volume captures the sixteenth through twentieth Parliaments of King James VI of Scotland 1600-1609 a period spanning his accession to the English throne as James I in 1603 and his relocation to London. Contains key acts restoring and regulating the Episcopal hierarchy in Scotland reflecting James VI's effort to align Scottish ecclesiastical governance more closely with the Church of England. Features the notable "Act Against Skandalous Speeches and Lybels" highlighting the Crown's stringent control over public discourse sedition and political dissent during the Union of the Crowns. Compiled by Sir John Skene of Currie Clerk Register and prominent legal antiquary whose official revisions standardized public access to statutory law in early modern Scotland. The annotations to our copy are brief glosses. English Short-Title Catalogue S116978. unknown
