A record of the Crown Prince of the German Empire and of Prussia's own hunting diary with accounts of nature and hunting experiences such as hunting elephants in Ceylon tigers in India shooting alpine ibex and grouse in Scotland. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece tipped in and twenty-eight mounted photographs in black and white on thick paper. Collated complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. With light damp marking to the boards. Alan Thornton's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Minor odd spotting to the fore edge affecting the occasional leaf. With a tipped in frontispiece in colour and twenty-eight mounted photographs. Collated complete. L’auteur, P. F. F. Buchholz était professeur privé à Berlin. Il est né à Alt Ruppin en 1768.Ce sont des portraits, parfois peu amènes de personnalités prussiennes, des militaires : Général de Koekeritz, Ch. G. F. duc de Brunswic-Wolfenbuttel, Prince de Hohenlohe, Louis-Ferd. de Prusse, Levin de Geusau, Adjudant-Général de Kleist, Blucher, Cte Kalkreuth, Massenbach, etc. - Des conseillers, ministres et savants : Beyme, Lombard, Cte de Haugwitz, Hardenberg, Cte de Hoym, Henri de Bulow, Jean de Muller, etc. et le portrait le plus long il le consacre à lui-même (pp. 379 à 402) sans dévoiler qu’il en est l’auteur. L’auteur anonyme du livre rend donc visite à soi-même, et décrit longuement, y compris physiquement, avec une complaisance certaine. Dans la préface, l’éditeur anonyme (Sander) déplore que l’auteur n’ait pas rendu justice à Jean de Muller dans le portrait qu’il fait de ce savant et avoue qu’il aurait volontiers supprimé cette notice. Le portrait de Muller est en effet très cruel. Exemplaire à l’état de parution, dans sa belle copertine ornée.
