In the price-clipped dust jacket; stamped price of $3.00 added later. Sunning to spine; slightly rubbed edges. A bright copy. A stunning acheivement in autobiography inasmuch as the author began her memoir at age 12 during the thick of WWII in the South Seas. Per the NY TImes review 1948 it's "an adventurous autobiography that makes most South Sea Island fiction seem tame by comparison." The manuscript was discovered by James Michener then a New York editor who had gained popularity for his Tales of the South Pacific. Dust jacket with a stunning Cirlen illustration using Polynesian motifs is now housed within a clear removable archival protector. The MacMillan Company hardcover
