FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 208 pages; 138 illus. 118 col. . -- with a bonus offer--; Between 1961 and 1968 at the height of the Pop art movement Roy Lichtenstein 1923-1997 created about 50 large black-and-white drawings. Not only was their imagery culled from consumer culture entirely new--baked potatoes ads for foot medication and BB Guns--but so was their treatment which drew on the rudimentary character of cheaply printed commercial drawings. Conceived independently from Lichtenstein's paintings these drawings recast illustrations from newspaper ads and comic books into works of keen visual intensity curiously echoing the clean-edge aesthetic of 1960s geometric abstraction. "Drawing is the basis of my art" Lichtenstein later affirmed; "It is where my thinking takes place." Published for an exhibition at the Morgan Library in New York this richly illustrated publication offers 120 color illustrations plus essays on Lichtenstein's technique and on his little-known 1967 Aspen project in which the artist transformed a room into a black-and-white cartoon drawing. . 2010. 3775726438 . FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- Text in English. 96 pp. one foldout with 91 ills. 76 col. and one tipped-in artist's book with 43 col. Ills. 32 x 32 cm. -- with a bonus offer--; This publication surveys the seminal group of Girl paintings by Roy Lichtenstein. In the Summer of 1961 Lichtenstein embarked on a series of iconic images of women taken directly from newspaper clippings and the romance comic books prevalent in post-war America. The anonymity of mass-produced cheap comics helped him capture specific impressions of real life while maintaining the necessary degree of aesthetic distance afforded by what he understood to be the 'high restrictive quality of art'. The 'Girl' paintings together with the war images or 'Boy' paintings established him as a major protagonist of the American Pop Art movement. His amalgamation of text and image high and low culture and his strategy to involve appropriated images continues to be a rich source of inspiration for subsequent generations of artists from Richard Prince Jeff Koons and Raymond Pettibon to John Currin and Elizabeth Peyton.A conversation between Jeff Koons and Dorothy Lichtenstein opens the catalogue. The publication also brings together an exceptional collection of over 130 images of paintings drawings sources and documentary photographs. Included in these images are 22 full-coloured plates of the 'Girl' paintings 18 of which are featured in the exhibition. The catalogue closes with a select chronology of Roy Lichtenstein's life pinpointing important exhibitions and occasions. An artist's book response to the Girl paintings created by Richard Prince is also included as an insert. . 2008. 0300149271 . FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 128 pp. ; 79 illus. 73 in color. -- with a bonus offer--; Roy Lichtenstein in His Studio is a portfolio of vivid and engaging photographs by Laurie Lambrecht who was an administrative assistant to Lichtenstein for three years. She and the artist worked together daily and the bond between them is evident in the photographs. Lichtenstein is shown working on two major series Reflections and The Interiors. He is completely absorbed oblivious to the camera as he mounts ladders assembles colors composes and steps back to consider the effect. During this period Lambrecht assisted in gathering material for a major retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. As a result the photographs include scrapbooks and sketchbooks and other archival material that document Lichtenstein’s entire career. There are stencils of Ben-Day dots clippings from newspapers and comic books Polaroid snapshots rolls of tape and boxes of colored pencils. Lichtenstein encouraged Lambrecht to make photographs and was often pleased and amused by the results. These images offer fascinating insight into Lichtenstein’s working processes and source materials as well as being vibrant works of art in their own right. In her essay Dorothy Lichtenstein wife of the artist recalls the collegial atmosphere of the studios in New York and Southampton in the early 1990s a time of extraordinary productivity. Edward Robinson an associate curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art describes Lambrecht’s process and approach. . 2011. 1580933181 . The Monacelli Press hardcover
