1924réf. 64508York PA & Detroit MI: Martin-Parry Corp. Ford Motor Co. 1924. Three pieces. 1st - Oblong 4to. One colour-printed dealer’s showroom display ad printed in yellow & black sized 12.5 x 9.5 in. preserved in original frame w/ glass cleaned & w/ archival foam core; 2nd -- Oblong pen & ink drawing on translucent paper sized 20.5 x 15 in. signed by Weis in lower right corner minor age toning some soiling to left margin preserved in original frame & glass archival foam core backing; 3rd -- Oblong pen & ink drawing on translucent paper sized 29.5 x 15.5 in. These three pieces including original concept drawings for the Martin-Parry Ford De Luxe Depot Woodie as well as the Martin-Parry Fire Engine on a Ford Model TT 1 ton chassis offer vivid examples of an industry in transition as Ford Motor Co. largely moved from outsourcing their commercial and private truck bodies to such body companies as Martin-Parry to in-house after 1925. The splendid De Luxe Depot Woodie wagons featured beautiful varnished side panels roll up canvas shades and in this case the dealer advertisement features the version with center and rear seats while the drawing depicts version without and just side benches in the cutaway. Martin-Parry marketed their bodies as knock-down kits which could be ordered and then assembled in cities across the country with their largest locations on the West Coast including Los Angeles San Francisco Portland OR and Seattle WA where customers could bring in their Ford Model T’s and have them fitted with the special order bodies.Martin-Parry fire engine bodies are notably scarce and were largely unavailable in their catalogues for later assembly. These appear to have been special order items and possibly only available at their Indianapolis IN or York PA factories for installing on the Ford Model TT 1 Ton truck chassis. In 1919 Parry Manufacturing and Martin Truck & Body Corp of York PA decided to merge following World War I and the consolidation was known as the Martin-Parry Corp. with F.M. Small as President and Guy Tripp of Westinghouse Electric as chairman of the board of directors. They specialized in commercial bodies truck bodies and commercial vehicles for Ford Model T and Ford Model TT trucks and would operate independently until they were purchased by Chevrolet Motor Co. in 1930 to produce their truck and commercial cars.
