Often featuring decidedly “Oregon” booster clubs and activities such as the “Wild Cavemen” of Josephine County who dressed in “cavemen” garb inspired by local Native American legends of pre-Columbian ancestors; the “Lava Bears” in Bend; “The Pirates” in Coos Bay and others. Also detailed are the developments of hydroelectric dams in the region; the newly opened Pacific Coast Silk Mill of the Pioneer Silk Co.; the massive reclamation project in Malheur County; the Trowbridge West-Made furniture Co. and rapid growth of paper companies. Of additional interest is the issue devoted to “Buying Oregon Products -- Key to Oregon Prosperity” surrounded by ads for many local companies and producers. In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 126 p., 11 unnumbered b/w plates, 8 numerous b/w ills., tables. Slight creasing on some pages, and slight stains, otherwise a good copy. First and only edition of this rare photography guide in Ottoman literature, prepared and published by Ipekci Brothers. This richly illustrated guide tells how to use a camera to take good and artistic photographs, and introduces parts of a camera. Some good photographic examples in this book as separate plates. The Ipekçi family, who had been engaged in the silk business for several generations in Thessaloniki, Greece, continued the silk trade for a while in Constantinople, where they migrated in 1893. The brothers, who first opened a store called "Hüsn-i Intihap" in Istanbul, and then the Thessaloniki Bonmarche, one of the biggest stores of the period, turned to filmmaking with Ihsan Ipekçi's initiative after the Thessaloniki Bonmarche was demolished during the arrangement of Eminönü Square. The family, which started operating the Alhambra Cinema, which was opened in 1923, converted "Paten Sarayi" [i.e. Skating Palace] into a movie theater and opened the Melek (today's Emek) cinema a year later. Ahmed Ihsan was an important figure of the late 19th century and also the founder of a current in Turkish literature, "Servet-i Fünûn" [i.e. The Wealth of Sciences or Knowledge]. He established a prominent printing house in the Ottoman Empire, and he is known as the translator of the first Jules Verne translation into Turkish. According to publicly available Florida corporate records the firm run by a Graddy Richard likely the Cajun ‘Ree-shard’ pronunciation operated from about 1986-1988 the height of production of the C4 Fourth Generation Chevrolet Corvette. Richard seems to have sourced fiberglass aerodynamic and ground effects packages from the prominent boutique customizer Greenwood also packaging his own custom-designed modifications to the seminal American sports car including options for wood-inlayed dashboards upgraded wheel packages etc… The included brochures contain a photocopied appearance on the company in a 1987 issue of MOTOR TREND magazine: "Distinctly styled Corvettes is another tuner that turns out high quality work. We had the opportunity to drive three examples from the company including a striking Callaway Twin Turbo and left quite impressed with the company’s commitment. Like Quality Motorsports Distinctly Styled Corvettes uses a number of Greenwood components. Special care is used in mating these pieces to the body and color-matching the paint. The company is also noted for individual touches like adding Corvette badges to the targa bar and gold lettering of engine identification. Distinctly Styled Corvettes often uses BBB component wheels and mates them with Michelin XGT tires. Genuine wood dash panels are also a frequently installed modification. The firm’s prices vary considerably since each car is built to the owner’s preference. Typical modifications generally run between $2000 and $5000.†Motor Trend September 1987; p. 44 A must-have primary source photographic archive depicting the iconic late 1980’s American Sports car. "Once in a while a book is published about the Pacific Northwest's past that is so remarkable for its insights and honest portrayal of events that it deserves special attention. This book by Bus Griffiths an author whose own life story is no less fascinating than the subject of which he writes is such a book. A picture story a historical fiction in comic book form recalling life in the B.C. woods as it happened a generation ago. Probing deeper the reader soon realizes he/she is seeing a fully comprehensive account of day-to-day logging operations as would have occured in hundreds of camps located along the coast of British Columbia . Logging has had a sociology of its own and for the careful reader it is fairly revealed in this book." - Daniel T. Gallacher Curator of Modern History Provincial Museum of British Columbia.
