From the publisher: "By the early 1960s Ford Motor Company built to bring automobile transportation to the masses was falling behind. Baby boomers were taking to the roads in droves looking for speed not safety style not comfort and Ford didn’t offer what these young drivers wanted. Meanwhile Enzo Ferrari lorded over the European racing scene crafting beautiful fast sports cars that epitomized style. Baime tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II with the help of a young visionary named Lee Iacocca and a former racing champion turned engineer named Carroll Shelby concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company. They would enter the high-stakes world of European car racing where an adventurous few threw safety and sanity to the wind. They would design build and race a car that could beat Ferrari at his own game at the most prestigious and dangerous race in the world the 24 Hours of LeMans. Go Like Hell transports readers to a golden era in racing when Ford's innovative strategy led to victories on the track and renewed respect for the American automobile.". Richard seems to have sourced fiberglass aerodynamic and ground effects packages from the prominent boutique customizer Greenwood also packaging his own custom-designed modifications to the seminal American sports car including options for wood-inlayed dashboards upgraded wheel packages etc… The included brochures contain a photocopied appearance on the company in a 1987 issue of MOTOR TREND magazine: "Distinctly styled Corvettes is another tuner that turns out high quality work. We had the opportunity to drive three examples from the company including a striking Callaway Twin Turbo and left quite impressed with the company’s commitment. Like Quality Motorsports Distinctly Styled Corvettes uses a number of Greenwood components. Special care is used in mating these pieces to the body and color-matching the paint. The company is also noted for individual touches like adding Corvette badges to the targa bar and gold lettering of engine identification. Distinctly Styled Corvettes often uses BBB component wheels and mates them with Michelin XGT tires. Genuine wood dash panels are also a frequently installed modification. The firm’s prices vary considerably since each car is built to the owner’s preference. Typical modifications generally run between $2000 and $5000.†Motor Trend September 1987; p. 44 A must-have primary source photographic archive depicting the iconic late 1980’s American Sports car.
