Friedrich führt eine Vielzahl an Belegen an deren Faszination man sich nicht entziehen kann. Das Buch ist in der Neuauflage in starkem Maße aktualisiert. Es finden sich zahlreiche neue Luft-Bilder und Grafiken die dem Laien wie auch dem Geologen die Naturgeschichte der Insel mit ihrer Schönheit näher bringen. Stimmen zum Buch: Walter L. Friedrich ist mit diesem Band ein wirklich grosser Wurf gelungen: Das Buch ist sowohl ein seriöses wissenschaftliches Werk über Vulkanismus und die Geologie einer aufregenden Vulkanlandschaft als auch gleichzeitig ein sehr schön gestalteter Bildband über die Insel Thera. Darüberhinaus merkt man dem Buch an wie sehr das Thema und die Insel seinen Autor fesseln und es gelingt ihm den Leser an dieser Begeisterung teilhaben zu lassen.
