Original maroon decorated cloth gilt on front cover and spine frontispiece portrait 282 pp. . advertising the St. Louis Texan a weekly newspaper illustrated 21 plates large folding map of Texas tables index. HERD 1927 says "rare" but describes a copy bound in stiff pictorial wrappers. A large portion of the text is devoted to counties and cities the livestock industry railroads and stage lines military posts a biographical sketch of Thomas Wentworth Peirce President of the Galveston Harrisburg & San Antonio Railway etc. Covers lightly soiled spine lightly faded the elusive map of Texas is present else a very good copy. An informative and useful book that provides detailed information on Texas during its formative early years. Map is very detailed and is bound-in at rear of volume but is split along several folds though complete St Louis: A. H. Granger, 1878. hardcover

End pages yellowed Inscription dated 1889 inside front cover stating Island of Jersey April 1889 and the name John W. Sorsoleel Difficult to read. There is also writing on the page next to it but too faded to read. Binding is holding but cracked. The Photo's have captions of each place under it i.e. St. Heliers Jersey. Next to the picture in smaller print is "Rock & Co. London 4500. Each one has a different number No 5414. Foxing around photos especially around pages at the front and back less in the middle but the photos are largely unaffected. 1 page loose from binding. 100 images. Publication date is likely earlier than 1889 but unknown. No jacket. Rock & Co. hardcover
