2021br. Chi era veramente Salvatore Antonio Gaetano, detto Rino? Quali erano i suoi sogni e quali sono stati i suoi maestri? Cosa ha avuto a che fare con Ettore Petrolini, Piero Ciampi, Eugene Ionesco, Enzo Jannacci, Vladimir Majakovskij, Matteo Salvatore? Che rapporti aveva con i cantautori degli anni Settanta? E con la politica? Perché è stato dimenticato per lungo tempo dopo la sua morte prematura, per tornare prepotentemente alla ribalta 25 anni dopo, tra discutibili fiction, maree di libri e fin troppe antologie con inediti? E infine, che eredità ha lasciato alle nuove generazioni di songwriter e cantanti pop e chi si merita davvero l'abusata etichetta di "nuovo Rino Gaetano"? Nato a Crotone e vissuto a Roma, figlio di emigranti e "mascotte" del Folkstudio, amico di Venditti e De Gregori ma anche del Barone di Montesacro e dei contadini calabresi, Gaetano è scomparso nel 1981, a soli 30 anni, in un incidente stradale del tutto simile a quello di uno dei suoi idoli, Fred Buscaglione. Freddie del Curatolo, musicologo e a sua volta cantautore, rivive la storia, il mondo e le suggestioni del "fratello figlio unico" della canzone italiana: un genio dotato di una sensibilità fuori dal comune, di ironia e capacità di sviscerare i malcostumi italiani e mettere alla berlina la classe politica, la mondanità, i media e l'alta finanza senza smettere di far sorridere e allo stesso tempo riflettere e senza mai celare l'amore per il suo Paese e per il Sud. Un artista genuino e inquieto che mal digeriva le regole del music business e che oggi forse nessuno avrebbe il coraggio di produrre.

2021br. Vittorio Occorsio, classe 1929, famiglia napoletana, era sostituto procuratore della Repubblica a Roma. Il 21 settembre 1981 è una data scolpita nella Storia della musica italiana: quel giorno Franco Battiato pubblica il suo undicesimo album, "La voce del padrone". È il più pop e al tempo stesso il più difficile, infatti che cosa vorrà mai dire «cerco un centro di gravità permanente»? E un'atmosfera così festosa, i testi quasi incomprensibili ma che rimango- no subito in mente, le musiche coinvolgenti ma spiazzanti, che cosa significano? Questo disco non è meno raffinato dei precedenti, anzi, però ha qualcosa che agli altri mancava: una volontà di comunicazione, di stupire sin dal primo ascolto, e il proposito, quasi folle, di arrivare all'immaginario collettivo pur nella complessità di riferimenti, giochi di parole, ermetismo. In ogni caso, Battiato ci riesce: "La voce del padrone" diventa il disco più venduto di sempre in Italia (oltre un milione di copie). E oggi è ancora venerato: appena set- te tracce, mezz'ora di melodie perfette impresse nella me- moria di intere generazioni. Per l'eternità, come capita solo ai capolavori. "Segnali di vita", scritto da uno dei massimi esegeti del Maestro siciliano, ripercorre la genesi dell'opera: gli antefatti, la creazione di un personaggio scostante e irresistibile, le ragioni di un record così clamoroso, il contesto sociale e musicale nell'Italia di quegli anni, la voglia del Nostro di non ripetersi mai, il suo desiderio di sbancare le classifiche ma di continuare le sue ricerche senza clamori, lo studio dettagliato del metodo compositivo, delle registrazioni, della copertina, delle singole canzoni, l'impatto sul pubblico.
