1968ref. 1520Poster printed recto and verso with texts and images in red and black inks on white commercial stock. Ca. 14 x 20 in. Very good. Loose as issued. 1520 An unrecorded and gorgeous work by The Berkeley Commune in affinity with the International Werewolf Conspiracy and Up Against the Wall Motherfucker identified for us by UAWMF founder Ben Morea as a co-publication with New York chapters of the secretive network of radicals. Strike Anywhere calls for immediate unified militant action to take control of the America's urban centers: "if there is going to be any student-worker alliance then it will be formed as clearly seen in france not in the factories but on the streets or not at all. if poor whites & middleclass hippies are going to come together as in chicago berkeley & NY it will be in the streets. if there is going to be a true working alliance with blacks then it will come from the common struggle in the streets. the streets are where we will confront the man & where the struggle will become clear - theoretically as well as tactically. theory in not separate from life/ we need space to create the existence we want to live & in the streets we learn the man isn't going to give up space - because the existence of an alternate life is a threat to his piglife."

1778ref. 44871London: Henry Fenwick 1778. The county of Middlesex essentially London was the heart of radical politics in England at the time of the Revolution and the greatest pro-American feeling was found in the merchants and working classes of the metropolis. The colonists often appealed directly to Middlesex for support. These works contain petitions relating to the American colonies dating from June 1774 to March 1778 including petitions regarding the Quebec Act in which the people express their concern over the encroachment of Catholicism and French influence in the colony. Likewise it includes the text of a letter from John Hancock to the mayor of London dated September 1775 expressing a hope for peace between Britain and the colonies. Adams notes that these two titles are often found bound together sometimes with other publications of the Council. The petition of the freeholders of Middlesex County concerns the John Wilkes case. Wilkes ran for Parliament and was elected as a radical candidate for Middlesex but was arrested and imprisoned shortly thereafter for seditious libel. Wilkes spoke out against the British war against the American colonies and his opposition to the Crown was a rallying point for the American cause. Contemporary calf spine gilt leather label. Boards heavily worn head and foot of spine chipped. Very minor scattered foxing. Good plus. In a brown half morocco and cloth slipcase. ESTC T108621 T108605 T43921.
