The Danish Expedition of 1906-8 explored the unknown coast of Northeastern Greenland from Cape Bismark to farthest point reach by Peary, to investigate the climate, flora and fauna, all of which are reported here including a fully annotated list of the 38 species of birds found with notes on nests, eggs, coloration, songs, food and habits. Four of the color plates are of birds, and one of eggs.

Da un disegno dal vero di Manzella e con la litografia di Salvi, illustrazione di tipo tassonomico, funzionale alla classificazione e allo studio di specie animali o vegetali. Trattandosi di un lavoro con scopi scientifici, da un punto di vista grafico, l'immagine non risulta filtrata da una visione artistica bensì realizzata secondo una rappresentazione oggettiva. Il disegno è infatti di ottima abilità tecnica nel riportare la figura in ogni particolare e la bellezza dell'immagine sta proprio nella precisione con la quale il soggetto è rappresentato. Alberto Manzella e G. Salvi, di origine fiorentina, attivi nel corso del XIX secolo, furono autori di litografie zoologiche e realizzarono soprattutto litografie ornitologiche. Opera tratta dalla "Iconografia della avifauna italica, ovvero descrizioni e tavole illustranti le specie di uccelli che trovansi in Italia" di Enrico Hillyer Giglioli, stampata a Firenze, 1906. Nel 1876 Enrico Hillyer Giglioli, professore di zoologia e anatomia comparata, fonda presso il Museo di Storia Naturale di Firenze la Collezione Centrale degli Animali Vertebrati Italiani, raccolta che ha fortemente influenzato la sua produzione scientifica. In particolare, la sezione ornitologica è stata oggetto di numerosi e importanti lavori, che documentano gli importanti studi fra fine Ottocento e l' inizio del Novecento. Giglioli inizia a lavorare alla "Iconografia della Avifauna Italica" nel 1879, un ambizioso programma editoriale che aveva come scopo la rappresentazione dal vero di tutte le specie di uccelli della fauna italiana. L’opera avrebbe dovuto essere pubblicata in circa ottanta fascicoli mensili ma solo cinquantaquattro videro effettivamente la luce; ogni fascicolo fu corredato di cinque litografie, ricavate dalle tavole disegnate e colorate a mano da Alberto Manzella. .

Importante opera di ornitologia, la migliore realizzata fino a quel momento. In ampi margini e in perfetto stato di conservazione. .
