réf. 18941129Silver gelatin print mounted on card 4.75 x 7.25 inches edges chipped as visible in scan. Manufactured in Marion Ohio Marion shovels were a world-wide fixture in mining and excavation from the 1880s through the 1980s. This photo of a Marion Model 61 in Russia may be during the construction of the mammoth iron mining and steel refining city of Magnitogorsk in the 1930s. Marion shovels there inspired poet and Magnitogorsk worker Boris Ruchyov to write the "Ballad of Excavator Marion." Inscription on reverse suggests it may have been published in a magazine.

réf. 15229Albion Iron Works Westbromwich West Bromwich. 21 June 1844. With 'WEST BROMWICH' postmark. 1p. 4to. Bifolium addressed on the reverse of the second leaf to 'Messrs. Thomson Hankey <& Co> Merchants 7 Mincing Lane London'. The second leaf is also docketed and carries two circular postmarks one from 'WEST BROMWICH'. Williams writes that he has returned to find 'an enquiry about the nails & chains'. He gives a price below which he cannot go adding: 'I must be paid for the Casks: but if a quantity of nails had been wanted I would have given my trouble on the other things as I should have made a profit on the nails'. The 'last Casks were indifferent as the P<> had a bad bargain. I would not send new ones. If I send more I must buy them.' The final paragraph reads: 'I confess the price for Chains seems high but they are very light & would be useless if made with bad iron such as Scotch hot blast but if you will venture that I am of opinion you may get them in London at a lower rate. I will assist you if you wish without making any charge for services.' Albion Iron Works, Westbromwich [West Bromwich]. 21 June 1844. With 'WEST BROMWICH' postmark. unknown
réf. 23492Societe des Nations League of Nations Conference etc in French and English Geneva 2 July 1932. One page sm. folio fold marks good condition. Henderson thanks Sayers for his telegram "urging drastic reduction in World Armanents. I can assure you that as President of the Conference I shall do all within my power to achieve this end. The responsibility for decisions rests however with the various Governments especially those of the Great Powers; I am therefore venturing to have mention made of your telegram in the Journal of the Conference so as to bring it to the notice of the Delegations. I am receiving magnificent evidence of the universal desire for genuine Disarmanent and I am sure that the ultimate results will depend to a great extent upon the effective manifestation to the Governments concerned of the strength of this public opinion. I think the next few weeks will be of great importance and I hope all your members will do their utmost to help forwards the great work of Disarmament." Notes: A. Apparently Sayers was Hon. Secretary of the Monmouth Town Branch of the League of Nations Union; B. I can't help commenting that there are striking resemblances between climate issues today and disarmament yesterday possibly as futile a discussion. Societe des Nations | League of Nations | Conference etc in French and English, Geneva, 2 July 1932 unknown
