It hosted bands from all genres and featured a downstairs acoustic bar named “8121”. Sawdust on the dance floor and giant goblets for draft beer were some of the popular trademarks of the venue. One of the notable and peculiar policies of the venue was “no open toe shoes” which was painted on the front door. The Troubadour which is still functioning today opened in 1957. New wave and punk was the main feature for The Troubadour in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Through the 1980’s the venue became synonymous with the heavy metal genre and glam bands during that time.
