réf. 140949913San Francisco: No publisher 1974. Original reverse painting by Residents' co-founder Hardy Fox on acetate measuring 16 x 19.75". Image of Edweena variant of that used on cover of The Residents' second studio album but shelved until it was released as their fourth album overall Not Available. The back of that album credits it "based on a drawing by a Resident"-- presumably this is either the drawing or a later development of it. In this painting Edweena's skin is a normal hue not green her hair brown as opposed to bright red her eyes red her name is not written along her collar and the background is a sedate turquoise rather than Near Fine with paint loss to upper corners a few tiny flakes along sides. From the estate of Hardy Fox. Not Available is a favorite among Residents fans but also a very dark album. Not surprisingly it came from a very dark place. The fandom wiki for the group states: "Following the commercial failure of Meet The Residents which sold only forty copies in its first year of release the group's lead composer Hardy Fox was in the midst of 'a bit of depression' and simultaneously coming to terms with the growing realisation that he was gay spent a great deal of time alone in The Residents' studio writing and recording 'somber melodies' with an old piano which he later called his 'best friend' at that time . The tensions which had developed among the members of The Residents peaked in the summer of 1974 supposedly culminating in a 'horribly embarrassing' food fight in a Chinese restaurant.Instead of allowing the group to splinter The Residents isolated themselves conducting 'rehearsals' as a form of group therapy. Through these rehearsals inspired by psychodrama a psychotherapy method in which participants act out their emotions through interpersonal interaction within a stage-like setting a stylized and surreal narrative began to develop." That psychodrama informs the album an opera of sorts. Like the music its album cover is distinctively off-putting. It's cartoonish but certainly not cute or comical full of resigned frowning faces and a certain emotionally-drained surrealism. Like the Residents oeuvre it is what it is. No apologies! réf. 5094Fox sketched his classic character Skipper with a man in a bathtub signing his name. On a 4 x 5 1/2 inch album page Fox has first signed his name "Fontaine Fox" then explained "This is probably the first autograph ever signed in a Bath tub!" Fox was a cartoonist and illustrator best known for the Toonerville Folks comic panel that appeared from 1913 to 1955 in 250 to 300 newspapers across the US. It is about a small town which seemed to operate in its own bubble. The gentle humor of the feature dealt with the antics of the various citizens and featured quasi-realistic situations. It was one of the most popular comics in the World War I era. unknown books

Binding tight and square pages clean and unmarked. 2021 Trade Paperback. 288 pp. Through stories most people haven't experienced like waiting in line to use the bathroom at an invite-only sex party in New York City Renard takes her readers to places we all know too well. Feeling disconnected unappreciated and like we are doing it all have become hallmarks of modern marriage and parenthood. Swing is helping individuals flip the switch from depleted to filled up in partnership parenting and career while inspiring couples to raise the bar for intimacy and communication inside and outside of the bedroom. Hilarious heartbreaking and hopeful Renard takes "doing it all" to a level she never intended and shares and bares it all so you can get your life back on track before you go off the deep end. "Renard's narrative voice is lighthearted and witty . a thoughtful work that delves into the intricacies of marriage and longing." Kirkus "Swing is the sexiest funniest most deeply felt memoir you will read this year. If Shonda Rhimes were a homeschooler and skating coach instead of a television exec if Cheryl Strayed visited exclusive sex clubs instead of canoodling on the trail if Elizabeth Gilbert stayed married after all her soul-searching then one of them might have written this book. And then again maybe not because Ashleigh Renard is one in a million." Andromeda Romano-Lax author of Annie of the Wolves and Behave "In Swing Ashleigh Renard has created an entirely new genre: the hot self-help book. With its wit and grace and wisdom--and some steamy interludes--this book belongs on your shelf next to Glennon Doyle and Brene Brown and Luvvie Ajayi." Dr. Deborah Williams Professor NYU "Swing shows how having the courage to blow up the love you have makes room for the love you deserve." Allison K Williams author of Seven Drafts: Self-Edit Like a Pro from Blank Page to Book "Charming hilarious and deeply wise Ashleigh Renard's remarkable debut is that rare thing: A memoir that both entertains and instructs." Joanna Rakoff author of A Fortunate Age My Salinger Year and The Fifth Passenger forthcoming "Swing is fearless and funny the perfect book for women who want marriage and motherhood to feel like a breathtaking adventure." Alia Volz author of Home Baked: My Mom Marijuana and the Stoning of San Francisco "In one of Swing's early chapters the author describes her morning routine as a young figure skater in vivid sensory detail. I was there in the locker room and out on the ice tracing the perfect circles and figure 8s wincing at the gash on my leg. I could relate deeply to the author's feeling of trying so hard checking so many boxes and yet failing at fulfillment . hard-won wisdom about what constitutes a meaningful and happy life and how to cultivate one's relationship with self."
