1937réf. 15199Blaydon-on-Tyne; The School Press 1937. 1937. Quarto pp. xv 1 46 6 plus half-tone frontispiece 4 further full-page half-tones 3 full-page woodcuts one colour painting as called for. Full morocco on five raised bands titled in gilt to upper cover; brown card end-papers illustrated with pen and ink drawings. Foreword by Brian Stanley. Soiling to leather and corners slightly bumped; binding otherwise strong. Contents clean and bright. An account of a school trip to Wallington Hall produced entirely by a group of children at a County Durham School. The introduction to this volume states that every element of the book: from the writing to printing illustration and binding was done by 14 children an almost even mix of boys and girls of 13-14 years of age all credited and identified by name at The School Press East Council Intermediate School Blaydon-on-Tyne. The final half-tone shows the children at work in the press room. The book is well-executed and deploys an eclectic variety of printing and illustrative techniques and frequently bears the charming crudities of a work of juvenile bookmaking. The School Press at East Council Intermediate School was a collaborative project between the art and English departments. The School Press produced a number of bound volumes in the 1930s with one volume of 1935 'Songs of Enchantment' including an original preface by Walter de la Mare in praise of the press. Necessarily rare. We locate 1 copy world-wide at Newcastle University. Blaydon-on-Tyne; The School Press, 1937. hardcover

Bibliografia W. Gaunt, The etchings of Frank Brangwyn, n. 69 II. Street scene crowded with men and women, a market stall hung with rabbit and other carcases running across the foreground, two men talking in the foreground to right and a view of town buildings, one with a stepped gable to left, in the background; second, published state, sky put in. Etching with mezzotint and surface tone, 1906, signed on pencil at the bottom. A fine impression, printed on contemporay china paper, with margins, perfect condition. One of four etchings made for and included in, the Catalogue of Frank Brangwyn's Etchings, prepared by Frank Newbolt and published by the Fine Art Society in a limited edition of 150 in 1908, according to Gaunt. Sir Frank William Brangwyn was a Welsh artist, painter, watercolourist, printmaker, illustrator, and designer. Frank Brangwyn was born in Bruges, Belgium where his father, William Curtis Brangwyn, moved after winning a competition organised by the Belgian Guild of St Thomas and St Luke to design a parish church. Brangwyn was an artistic jack-of-all-trades. As well as paintings and drawings, he produced designs for stained glass, furniture, ceramics, table glassware, buildings and interiors, was a lithographer and woodcutter and was a book illustrator. L’interpretazione dei soggetti rappresentati su queste lastre, sempre enigmatiche, è spesso controversa Etching with burnished aquatint and engraving, 1799. From the fourth edition of twelve of the so-called "Los Caprichos" series, edited by the Madrid Calcografia [circa 1870].A very good impression, with good contrast, printed on contemporary paper, customary margins, in very good conditions. The series called Los Caprichos, consists of eighty etchings. This first edition of 1799, the only one not to be published posthumously, is imprinted on soft laid pape. Cured in phase edition by the same artist, the series was marketed and before long withdrawn from the market. In fact, because of the many subjects that mocked the Spanish society of the century, Goya suffered censorship. The interpretation of the subjects represented on these plates, always enigmatic, is often controversial. Harris 48, Delteil 50

1777réf. AQ30003Bath: Printed by R. Crutwell for the Author 1777. 6 5-55pp 1. Modern green wrappers. Book-label of J. O. Edwards to verso of upper wrapper. Small marginal worm-track running throughout blank lower margin of leaf F1 shaved ink-stamps of Merton House to terminal leaf scattered spotting. The sole edition of the first published work of historian and poet Richard Polwhele 1760-1838. Born at Truro Cornwall Polwhele began to write poetry when about twelve years old. His juvenile production received praise most notably from satirist John Wolcot bap. 1738 d. 1819 then a resident of Truro. The flattery of friends encouraged him to publish The Fate of Lewellyn under the moniker of 'a young gentleman of Truro School' whereupon a critic for the Monthly Review quipped that the master of the school should have kept it in manuscript. The volume did nothing to further his career indeed it gave him the reputation of an unpromising poet - a reputation he was fortunately able to shake off with later efforts. ESTC T109007.
