A landmark of New Hollywood cinema and arguably the high spot as well as the beginning of an incredible streak of inventive cinematic achievements directed by George Roy Hill in the 1960s and 1970s that included "Slaughterhouse-Five" 1972 "The Sting" 1973 and "Slap Shot" 1977. Loosely based on fact Butch Cassidy Newman and his partner the Sundance Kid Redford are on the run from a US posse after a string of train robberies. They flee to Bolivia in search of a a better way to be thieves but ultimately meet their doom. Blue titled wrappers noted as FINAL on the front wrapper dated July 15 1968. Title page present dated July 15 1968 noted as FINAL with a credit for screenwriter Goldman. 185 leaves with last page of text numbered 186. A well-loved and overlooked comedy in which Chase plays a sportswriter who moves his family to rural Vermont in order to write a novel. The townspeople however turn out to be more than a little eccentric and the relative seclusion sought by the family is interrupted by one disaster after another. Materials housed in director Hill's black three-ring binder. Various loose materials in the binder pockets. Oscar-winning director George Roy Hill's working copy with his name in holograph pencil on the front wrapper and annotations throughout in holograph pencil and ink typically on the verso opposite each right-facing page. A delightful original musical set in the 1920s that mixes pop standards with new songs written by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen. Julie Andrews borrowing somewhat from the character in her Broadway triumph "The Boy Friend" stars as Millie Dilmount who comes to New York in search of a secretarial job and an unattached boss but finds more than that. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Original Score and nominated for 6 others. Yellow titled wrappers noted as REVISED FINAL SCREENPLAY on the front wrapper and dated May 16 1966. Title page present with a credit for screenwriter Morris. 130 leaves mimeograph duplication rectos only.
