Thieves' Highway Post-production script for the 1949 film
Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox 1949. Post-production Dialogue and Continuity script for the 1949 film. Brief notation in holograph ink on the front wrapper and in pencil on the verso of the last page. Based on the novel "Thieves' Market" by A.I. Bezzerides who also wrote the screenplay. Based on Bezzerides' own experiences as a truck driver the author's adaptation of his own novel takes a direct aim at the fruit industry of the West coast resulting in essential proletarian literature. The novel's rich California scenery comes through beautifully in Dassin's visually stunning film reminiscent of the director's earlier noirs "Brute Force" in 1947 and "The Naked City" in 1948 Silver et al. Blue studio wrappers dated August 19 1949 noting footage of 8437 feet. Mimeograph duplication. Very Good plus overall bound internally with three gold brads. Criterion Collection 273. Grant US. Hardy The BFI Companion to Crime. 129. Selby Canon. Silver Classic Noir. Spicer US. Twentieth Century-Fox unknown
