br. Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834) è stato pastore protestante a Berlino e ha insegnato Filosofia all'Università di Halle e Teologia a Berlino. Ha avuto una lunga carriera universitaria nel corso della quale ha tenuto conferenze su molteplici tematiche e fornito contributi tuttora fondamentali e discussi in un ampio spettro di discipline, dalla filosofia della religione all'ermeneutica, dall'interpretazione di Platone all'estetica, alla pedagogia, alla traduttologia. Attentissimo agli aspetti linguistici e storici del sapere e dell'agire, Schleiermacher basa la sua proposta filosofica su una epistemologia del dialogo e su un'articolata etica della comunicazione tra individui e comunità e tra tradizioni religiose e istanze scientifiche della modernità. Il costante e diffuso incremento di studi sull'autore in questi ultimi decenni, tanto in Europa che negli Stati Uniti, sta dimostrando come il pensiero di Schleiermacher costituisca un riferimento significativo, tanto per la comprensione della sua epoca, quanto per i dibattiti filosofici attuali.

Una piccola enciclopedia del vizio dalla Roma di Giovenale alla Francia di La Rochefoucauld, da Silvio Berlusconi a Homer Simpson, che può essere sfogliata tanto dai peccatori del ceto dirigente come breviario di conforto quanto dalle anime specchiate e dai sudditi indignati come guida alla sopravvivenza nella giungla dei corrotti.

Inoltre, quest'approccio si rivela utile in campo pedagogico, dove può aprire più ampie prospettive di assistenza.
