In una società così distratta e superficiale come la nostra, che rifugge da ogni sguardo interiore e da ogni esame di coscienza, in cui più nessuno è disposto all'ascolto, con chi parlarne? Era necessario quindi scrivere, perché le loro esperienze non andassero perdute per sempre; al contrario, potessero essere di utilità a qualcuno. Perché, se la memoria non è utile, a che serve? I protagonisti ci richiamano a pochi valori sicuri, essenziali, come il dovere del rispetto e dell'amore per il nostro prossimo, l'amicizia, gli affetti famigliari, lo humor, la speranza. La loro memoria, a mio avviso, può ancora rappresentare il "grano buono" rimasto nel setaccio, con cui potremo di nuovo impastare il pane per i nostri figli, quando la pula, la "parte vile", sarà dispersa nel vento.‎
