Original songs with music. Established by Samuel G. Goodrich in 1841 this very popular children's periodical claimed a circulation of 13000 in 1852. The Museum was similar in many ways to Parley's Magazine which it absorbed in 1844 but contained more adventure and thrills than Parley's. The most important part of the sixteen-page magazine during Goodrich's editorship was that devoted to the tales of the famous "Parley"; these were moral and didactic but nevertheless very popular. "Parley" used stories of travels by balloon to teach geography as well as historical lore painlessly. Another prominent feature was a series of natural history articles illustrated with pictures of wild animals. Woodcuts musical pieces puzzles and poems were plentiful. D. br. Tra le pieghe della storia per scoprire l'incanto nascosto della città Padova, nel corso della sua straordinaria storia, è stata un centro culturale e scientifico. Fra XIII e XIV secolo era al centro della produzione letteraria con uno dei capolavori del Medioevo, opera di un padovano, Rolandino. In quell'epoca, in città, si forma un circolo d'intellettuali che darà vita al "preumanesimo": Albertino Mussato viene coronato "poeta" per la tragedia Ecerinis , in cui Ezzelino III diviene "figlio del demonio". Un'opera che fa discutere, e che spinge Dante a prendere posizione sulla dinastia dei da Romano. Sul finire del Trecento, Cennino Cennini, alla corte dei Carraresi, compone il primo trattato sulla pittura: Il Libro dell'Arte , con un concetto dell'Arte che anticipa il Rinascimento. Intanto un nuovo ballo conquista le corti europee: la "danza pavana", primato tutto patavino. Dal XVI secolo Padova diviene fulcro della rivoluzione scientifica e medica, a partire dalla definizione di "teatro anatomico" del medico Alessandro Benedetti. E gli anatomisti della sua scuola conquisteranno artisti come Leonardo e Michelangelo. Tirare fuori i pupi dalle scatole, sistemare il muschio raccolto in campagna e messo a essiccare con cura, e le lucine per ricreare l'atmosfera di un tempo remoto nella storia, mescolata a quello dell'infanzia. L'inaugurazione, insindacabilmente, l'otto dicembre, lo smontaggio il due febbraio. Quanti ricordano i riti che accompagnavano l'allestimento del presepe? A quanti di noi, ripensandoci, balza alla mente la figura di un nonno indaffarato tra statuine, colla e carta di giornale? Quanti ancora portano avanti questa tradizione?
