br. Il fascino che il cibo, in qualità di strumento letterario, esercita sull'autrice di Harry Potter, e quindi direttamente sulla saga, proviene da lontano: ha infatti radici fin nelle letture d'infanzia. A differenza dei suoi autori di riferimento però, J. K. Rowling è riuscita a utilizzare il cibo in maniera molto più ampia e sfaccettata, facendogli assumere di volta in volta un ruolo determinante per spingere innanzi la storia, per colorarla di sfumature ludiche, per evidenziarne i risvolti familiari e sociali. La sua rilevanza è talmente determinante che neppure la magia riesce a comandarlo: non può infatti generarlo dal nulla, ma solamente variarlo nella quantità rispetto a un ammontare preesistente. E se pensiamo che, fra le altre limitazioni al potere magico, rientrano forze come il vero amore e il dono della vita, possiamo subito comprendere quale posto d'onore J.K. Rowling abbia inteso riservare, all'interno della propria creazione, a ciò che è responsabile del nostro nutrimento, del nostro sviluppo e del nostro sostentamento.

br. La vicenda artistica di Joanne Kathleen Rowling non ha precedenti nella storia dell'industria libraria. Mai, prima di lei, un autore era assurto a fama e ricchezza così velocemente e, al tempo stesso, in maniera così estesa e capillare. Nel giro di una dozzina d'anni la scrittrice è passata da un sussidio di disoccupazione pari a 278 sterline al mese a una fortuna stimata in 530 milioni di sterline, diventando un fenomeno editoriale, cinematografico e mediatico. A uno sguardo più attento è possibile scorgere, tuttavia, il sottile filo «magico» che lega gli eventi e capire come i 32 anni che vanno dalla sua nascita alla pubblicazione di Harry Potter e la Pietra Filosofale non siano altro che un lungo terreno preparatorio per tutto quello che verrà superficialmente etichettato dalla stampa anglosassone come una semplice storia «dagli stracci alla ricchezza», ma che in realtà ha tutti gli appassionanti connotati di un racconto fantastico. Un racconto che questo saggio biografico narra in dettaglio grazie a scrupolose e ampie ricerche, dimostrando la fondatezza del vecchio adagio: «Attenti a ciò che desiderate. Perché potrebbe avverarsi...».

Il volume ripercorre le principali tappe storiche che portano all'emergere di un moderno modello di artista, un intellettuale che si connette alla società ed ai problemi del proprio tempo, attraverso le immagini, da cui è stato possibile trarre fondate e sapienti linee di "pedagogia in re". Il lavoro ha inteso offrire il giusto risalto alle fonti "iconografiche" nella ricerca storica in educazione, per ricavare, dalla lezione del grande artista spagnolo, tracce più o meno evidenti, ma sempre incisive, di pensiero critico, di impegno sociale, e, non ultimo, di implicito intento pedagogico. Goya non è stato solamente uno dei pittori più importanti del suo tempo, ma un pensatore profondo, accostabile al Goethe letterato (T. Todorov, 2011). L'avevano compreso i suoi primi biografi, a metà del XIX secolo, tra i quali Charles Yriarte, che, nel 1867, attribuiva alle sue incisioni tutta la portata della filosofia più alta: le immagini, non diversamente dal pensiero espresso a parole, rappresentano, infatti, una riflessione sul mondo e sugli uomini.

Quando la poesia sa distendersi e articolarsi in chiave narrativa, gli strumenti forniti da Michail Bachtin per l'analisi dei romanzi si prestano a individuare momenti, situazioni e topoi in cui spazio e tempo diventano vettori di senso, assumendo un ruolo decisivo nell'organismo dei testi.
