Smithsonian Institution Bureau of American Ethnology Bulletin 184. 1st edition.<br /><br />Leslie White was an American anthropologist best known for his ideas about cultural evolution White Leslie A. He was influenced by the Marxian economic theory Darwinian evolutionary theory and by what he learned while attending school and participating in fieldwork. When White got out of the Navy he went to Louisiana State University then to Columbia University and lastly to the University of Chicago. He received a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Psychology from Columbia University and a Ph. D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago. Early on White did fieldwork in the American southwest with the Keresan Pueblo Indians. He then taught at the University of Michigan. Throughout his life White was interested in general evolution. He strongly supported the ideas of the 19th-century writers Herbert Spencer Lewis H. Morgan and Edward Tylor. He adopted many of their ideas and gave them a fresh approach. He is known for developing the term "culturology". White coined this term because he believed that cultures should not be explained in terms of psychology biology or physiology but rather in its own category. Prostituzione storia e dibattito nell'Italia del Novecento
br. La prostituzione è stata fino agli Ottanta del Novecento quasi sempre oggetto di aggressive politiche di controllo. Tali politiche sono passate da una decisa repressione, in nome di principi religiosi e morali, ad una tolleranza collegata alla volontà di controllare il «vizio», considerato indispensabile dal punto di vista del bisogno maschile. Centrale in entrambi gli approcci: regolamentaristici e abolizionisti pongono al centro delle proprie inquietudini le preoccupazioni per l'ordine pubblico. A garantire ordine vi è sempre stata la polizia, come strumento fondamentale del controllo e l'azione della Chiesta. Grande dibattito vi fu con l'introduzione della legge Merlin. La fortuna delle legge Merlin, dalla sua formulazione fino agli anni Ottanta del Novecento non solo va letta in parallelo all'acceso dibattito tra femministe e all'interno delle diverse forze politiche, ma pone delle problematiche nel momento in cui le prostitute stesse si politicizzano e si propongono come protagoniste della sua revisione, ripresentando con forza nuove battaglie per le donne. Una rottura con il passato che ha nella politicizzazione della prostituta una rivisitazione teorica del femminismo.

br. Come si è arrivati al durissimo Germania-Italia del 2011-2012? Alla gara quotidiana dello spread7. Al governo imposto a Roma da Berlino? Alla recessione imposta all'Italia, la più grave della Repubblica? Che può solo aggravare il debito, e generare altra crisi. L'Europa non è la stessa dopo la caduta del Muro. Perché la Germania è un'altra. La solidarietà si subordina alla convenienza, l'interesse di ogni paese non è più l'interesse di tutti, un problema si pone di egemonia. Di egemonia tedesca. Controvoglia, si dice, e invece determinata: il capitolo "La colpa è dell'Italia" ne porta le prove. Argomentando la vittoria infine della Germania nella sua terza "guerra civile" europea. Sui toni del faceto, ma non del tutto. Sugli stessi toni viene rivisitata la Germania, di ieri e di oggi, nella mentalità, e nei modi di porsi col resto del mondo. Un quadro semiserio, a parti rovesciate. In questa "Europa tedesca" poco si sa della Germania. La Germania nuova è anzi terra incognita. Mentre la Germania sa tutto di noi, naturalmente. C'è quindi un vuoto da riempire. "Gentile Germania" si propone come un tour rovesciato. Ribaltando la proiezione, dal Sud al Nord, e il pregiudizio.

La narrazione, che attinge a testimonianze e documenti in parte inediti, ripercorre le vicende tragiche di famiglie e persone, ma si accentra in particolare su settori e istituzioni di rilevante interesse pubblico: la scuola e l'università, che videro l'espulsione dei docenti ebrei, il mondo dell'informazione, con particolare attenzione alla funzione assunta dalla "Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno", quotidiano nazionale, diffuso soprattutto in Puglia e nelle regioni limitrofe. In queste pagine, l'Istituto pugliese per la storia dell'antifascismo e dell'Italia contemporanea perfeziona indagini avviate una decina d'anni fa, in collaborazione con l'IRRSAE Puglia, l'Archivio di Stato di Bari e diversi organismi scolastici. I risultati di questa nuova pubblicazione costituiscono un'occasione di riflessione sul complesso fenomeno del razzismo e dell'intolleranza, tipici del totalitarismo fascista, che ha avuto effetti rilevanti anche nella realtà pugliese alla fine degli anni Trenta.
