‎TRON Collection of 6 original photographs from the 1982 film‎

‎Burbank CA: Walt Disney Productions 1982. Collection of six vintage film still photographs three of which are borderless from the French release of the groundbreaking 1982 film. Featuring an image of Jeff Bridges and Cindy Morgan in their Grid bodysuits as well as various images of computer graphics that represent the Grid. <br/><br/>Jeff Bridges plays a game designer who ends up in the very game he's been programming and who must defeat the computer-generated image of his money-grubbing employer. The pinnacle of computer graphics technology at the time a hybrid of back-lit live action and computer-generated visuals "TRON" was one of the first of many films to reflect the burgeoning video game craze of the 1980s. The creation of these hybrid graphics took the work of at least four distinct graphics firms with over 550 people involved in post-production work. <br/><br/>While critically acclaimed for its flashy visual spectacle "TRON" fared more poorly at the box office than the studio expected though in time the film would escape its cult status and become the highly-lauded landmark in science fiction film history that it had always been. Nominated for two Academy Awards. Shot on location in California. <br/><br/>7 x 9.5 inches. Fine condition. Walt Disney Productions unknown books‎

‎Brubaker Vernacular photo album and scrapbook documenting the 1980 film‎

‎Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox 1980. Vintage vernacular photo album and scrapbook by Ray Abraham a high school art teacher in Athens OH who also appeared as an extra in the film. Containing 17 predominantly color photographs of actors or crew members on location or interacting with the nearby community as well as clippings from local papers about the film signed letters addressed to Abraham from actors Robert Redford and Konrad Sheehan and other ephemera. <br/><br/>The film which was shot on location at the recently closed Junction City Prison in Ohio used locals as extras for the prison scenes and based on the newspaper clippings was a major source of excitement for the nearby towns. This extended to Abraham who apparently invited the stars of the film to attend an exhibition of his students' art work at Athens High School. While Redford declined local actor and apparent Redford look-alike James Linton caused quite the sensation among the teenagers. Altogether a detailed and charming look at the effects of a major Hollywood production on a community during location shooting. <br/><br/>Inspired by the 1969 nonfiction book "Accomplices to the Crime" by Tom Murton and Joe Hyams about abuse and corruption in the Arkansas prison system. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. <br/><br/>Scrapbook Good only with many interior pages loose or plastic sheets no longer attached. <br/><br/>Photographs variously sized most 3.5 x 5 inches. ‎The Great McGinty Original screenplay for the 1940 film‎

‎Hollywood: Paramount Pictures 1939. Master File script for the 1940 film "The Great McGinty" seen here under the working title "Down Went McGinty" corrected in red pencil to "The Great McGinty." This revision contains an appropriately unusual and rather whimsical foreword by Sturges with two earlier titles "Biography of a Bum" and "The Vagrant" cited on the second and fourth leaves respectively. Sturges had become a very successful Hollywood screenwriter by the late 1930s and with his screenplay for "The Biography of a Bum" wanted so much to direct the film that he offered to do the job for free. With very few exceptions notably Charlie Chaplin the notion of an established studio writer directing a film was nearly unheard of in Hollywood where writers were typically not even allowed on the set. Only the irresistible cheapness of Sturges' offer made it possible for the film to get made. Over the six year period during which the script remained unproduced the title changed to "The Vagrant" then "Down with McGinty" then finally just prior to production to "The Great McGinty." It was not only a success but won Sturges an Oscar for Best Screenwriter. More importantly he was allowed to continue as a writer-director with a magnificent career that included one classic after another including "Sullivan's Travels" "The Lady Eve" "Unfaithfully Yours" "The Palm Beach Story" and "Hail the Conquering Hero." Tall cream colored self titled wrappers marked copy No. 1 and rubber-stamped Production No. 672 MASTER FILE FILE COPY and PLEASE RETURN TO THE STORY DEPARTMENT / PARAMOUNT STUDIO - HOLLYWOOD. Dated April 28 1939. Title page present dated 1933 with credits for screenwriter Sturges. 109 leaves mimeograph on cream colored stock. Pages Near Fine wrapper Very Good plus. Side stitched.
