Apocalisse ebraica. Libro della Rivelazione di Baruc
br. "Ed ecco, fece piovere acque nere, ed erano tenebrose più di tutte le acque precedenti ed era mescolato a loro fuoco e dove quelle acque scendevano facevano distruzione e perdizione..." Il Libro della rivelazione di Baruc, figlio di Neria, tradotto dal greco in siriaco, scritto a ridosso della caduta di Gerusalemme (70 d.C), si interroga sul senso di questo evento e, come sempre, il passato diviene la chiave per comprendere il presente e gli eventi futuri che incombono. Il racconto della distruzione della città è interpretato e teologicamente ripensato: si tratta di una visione complessa, affascinante e inquietante che Baruc, testimone eletto da Dio, narra dischiudendo, col linguaggio potente delle immagini, il significato della sofferenza, del male e della sua espiazione.

Apocalisse cristiana. Sull'Anticristo
br. Mostriamo di che tipo e qualità sarà la venuta dell'Anticristo, in quale occasione e in quale tempo sarà rivelato "l'iniquo", donde e da quale tribù proverrà, e qual è il suo nome, indicato nella Scrittura mediante il "numero"... Soltanto il ritorno del Messia sancirà la totale distruzione del male. Sino ad allora l'attesa dell'anticristo, personificazione dei mali ancora operanti nel mondo e figura ereditata dalla tradizione ebraica, si farà sempre più ansiosa e opprimente. Ippolito nel suo singolare trattato De Antichristo, scritto in greco verso il 200, raccogliendo tutto ciò che la Bibbia offre sulla figura dell'antimessia, riesce a creare un'autentica "anticristologia". La figura dell'oppositore di Cristo viene presentata dall'autore - sulla cui identità si è tanto dibattuto - all'interno di coordinate storico-politiche ben precise. L'impero romano, ai tempi delle persecuzioni dei cristiani, sebbene non sia considerato l'anticristo, avendolo in potenza già in sé, ne costituisce il preludio. Teologo, santo e martire romano vissuto tra il II e III secolo, Ippolito è stato anche uno scrittore prolifico: sotto il suo nome la tradizione ci ha trasmesso numerosi scritti e frammenti, in prevalenza esegetici. Tra le sue opere più importanti si ricorda, il trattato sul Cantico dei Cantici, sul Libro di Daniele e Philosophumena.

Come per lucido specchio. Libro dei meriti di vita
br. Il "Liber vitae meritorum" è, con lo "Scivias" e il "Liber divinorum operum", uno dei tre testi principali di teologia mistica di Ildegarda di Bingen. Più che un'etica cristiana medievale, è una narrazione visionaria di forte intensità morale, ancora oggi di estrema attualità. Affrontando il tema del rapporto tra macrocosmo e microcosmo, il testo giunge a definire con profondità la relazione che esiste tra l'uomo e un Dio che ha voluto farsi uomo egli stesso. Dal conflitto tra vizi e virtù (i cosiddetti "meriti di vita") scaturisce l'osservazione della meravigliosa armonia tra progetto divino e libera volontà umana. Ildegarda, - che dà di sé la definizione di "creatura semplice" - riferisce la propria personale esperienza mistica che si traduce in una grandiosa visione cosmica al centro della quale sta, appunto, l'Uomo. Innanzi a lui si svolge il confronto tra vizi e virtù, tra i quali è necessaria ogni giorno una scelta: se questa sarà eticamente errata e sarà improntata al vizio, nell'aldilà purgatoriale l'anima incorrerà in una serie di punizioni. L'autrice si sofferma anche su questo aspetto, sottolineando come l'uomo debba in vita cercare di allontanarsi dal vizio ed emendarsi dei propri peccati, per accedere così, dopo la morte, alla vita "tutta di gioia" con la descrizione della quale il testo si conclude. In definitiva, è "opera della Sapienza che scopre e smonta tutti i sofismi e gli inganni dell'amor proprio e ci dà, per combattere, non le armi della nostra propria forza, ma la forza di Dio".

Le domande radicali su Dio e il male - a partire dallo scandalo di Giobbe abbandonato a Satana - aprono alla necessità di Sophia, presenza archetipica e simbolo di un'alleanza diversa tra l'umano e il divino. La ricerca dell'"eretico" Jung si dimostra allora affine all'ispirazione sofianica di quei grandi filosofi cristiani ortodossi, come Florenskij e Bulgakov, presentando la possibilità di una teologia e di una spiritualità all'altezza di pensare la controparte femminile, quella di Dio e quella delle sue creature.

Monaci, uomini senza Dio? Pratiche, senso, essenza
br. I monasteri dovrebbero rappresentare l'ultima roccaforte che resiste alle forze modernizzatrici, materialiste e prive di Dio, che dilaniano il mondo occidentale. Oppure no? E se anche i monaci fossero, invece - come i non monaci - uomini senza Dio? Carichi, cioè, di una vaga e imprecisata spiritualità utile soprattutto come guida per orientarsi in spazi e tempi che con Dio hanno poco a che fare? E se il monastero non fosse altro che un luogo in cui monaci e turisti del sacro, mescolati nello stesso spazio, non cercano altro che recuperare una dimensione più umana, meno alienante e dunque un maggiore equilibrio nella quotidianità? E se essere monaci non fosse altro che la messa in pratica di un'arte di vivere il presente che nel mondo fuori sembrerebbe perduta? Il saggio vuole lanciare una provocazione: in una società frammentata e secolare, compressa nel tempo e nello spazio, persino luoghi come i monasteri smettono di essere caratterizzati da religiosità tradizionali per essere trasformati in spazi di ricerca spirituale completamente inediti, alternativi e che spesso hanno a che fare più con la ricerca di un benessere psico-fisico da ottenersi qui e ora, che con l'anelito verso un Dio che attende l'uomo nell'aldilà.

La simbologia musicale nei commenti ai salmi di Agostino
br. L'oggetto di questo libro è la simbologia musicale negli scritti di Agostino. È forse la prima volta nella storiografia che il tema dell'immagine musicale come metafora teologica e antropologica è affrontato direttamente, nel corpo a corpo attivato da Laurence Wuidar coi testi del grande filosofo cristiano. Ne risulta illustrata in chiave musicologica un'ampia silloge di immagini simboliche di contenuto teologico, filosofico e antropologico-musicale. Nei commenti ai Salmi Agostino costruisce uno straordinario laboratorio linguistico e ermeneutico che fa degli elementi fondanti della musica - il ritmo, il tempo, l'ascolto, il suono, la voce, il canto, gli strumenti con cui far musica - i veicoli simbolici esplicativi di concetti teologici - la Mente divina, il Verbo, l'Eternità, la figura di Cristo, la Croce, la Trasfigurazione, il Santo o il Profeta. In questo febbrile esercizio esegetico la musica assume un rilievo straordinario, in quanto più d'ogni altra riflessione o discorso essa si mostra capace di avviare la conoscenza umana ai misteri della fede cristiana.

Performance divino-umana. La concettualità del drammatico nella proposta teologica di H. U. Von Balthasar

Il testo offre uno studio sistematico del ruolo del drammatico nell'ermeneutica teologica di H.U. von Balthasar, recuperando in tale ottica i riferimenti alla storia del teatro, alla problematica del suo rapporto con le istituzioni ecclesiastiche, e le sollecitazioni provenienti dai principali drammaturghi occidentali. Il drammatico è così studiato non nei prolegomena alla teologia o dal punto di vista della comprensione dell'esistenza storica del soggetto, bensì nell'esposizione della dogmatica (cristologia, soteriologia, escatologia), verificando se esso si esaurisce in un riferimento estrinseco o se dispiega un autentico potenziale ermeneutico per la teologia. Il testo determina quindi il concetto di dramma che abbraccia la produzione dell'autore (dramma come incontro di libertà), e indaga quale modello drammaturgico sia effettivamente impiegato in sede teologica, sostenendo che, nell'esposizione della dogmatica, Balthasar abbandona il teatro della rappresentazione per impiegare un paradigma di riferimento più prossimo alla drammaturgia della performance.

Solo la dialettica, infatti, antidogmatica per definizione, può cogliere l'essenza divina del dio nascosto mai granitico, né incontrovertibile. brossura L'intento di questa ricerca è di prendere "sul serio", forse anche "sul serissimo" e di dimostrarlo, l'itinerario filosofico e teologico di Edith Stein, ponendo in parallelo le voci di chi l'ha conosciuta e ha vissuto un tratto d'esistenza, condividendolo, con lei. L'angolo prospettico presenta un punto di condensazione, il Blickwendung della notte di Bergzabern, il punto di discrimine creatosi con la lettura della Vita di Teresa di Gesù che mutò la vita intellettuale ed esistenziale della giovane fenomenologa e la fece divenire "ponte" nel confronto con la scolastica nell'esperienza della Verità. "Ponte" che tante voci hanno attraversato con lei, nei diversi momenti cronologici della storia, proprio perché vivendo i decenni oscuri dell'Europa ed essendosene lasciata attraversare, ha reso se stessa "ponte incarnato", che ognuno/a può percorrere e attraversare, per giungere alla conoscenza di sé ed aprirsi al mistero dell'irruzione di Dio. Edith Stein, scoperta la sua vocazione di "ponte" intellettuale fra fenomenologia e scolastica, ritenuta dal suo contemporaneo prof. Dyroff dell'Università di Bonn, "la più grande donna del cielo dei filosofi tedeschi", diviene anche "ponte" fra Israele e la Chiesa cattolica, nell'efferata tragedia della Shoah scagliata sull'Europa e sul mondo dall'ideologia nazista e perpetrata dalla macchina burocratica della "banalità del male" nazista.

br. Madre Teresa e Gandhi hanno incarnato i vertici di ciò che l'essere umano può raggiungere. I loro esempi hanno il potere di rischiararci la strada e di farci uscire da una impasse in cui la modernità è caduta, apparentemente senza via di uscita, mostrandoci come l'azione disinteressata e la condotta etica si realizzino a partire da presupposti e da una visione del mondo che - come afferma Panikkar - "è fondamentalmente incompatibile con quella attuale". In principio. «Philosophia sive theologia»: meditazioni teologiche e trinitarie
br. A dipanarsi, in queste pagine, è un vero e proprio corpo a corpo con la questione che più da vicino, forse, ci riguarda: quella di Dio. Che già Aristotele riteneva costituire la ragione ultima di ogni metafisica - in virtù della quale, cioè, ogni vera filosofia avrebbe dovuto riconoscere, da ultimo, la propria vocazione intrinsecamente teologica. Ma, parlare di Dio, nel nostro orizzonte culturale, significa anche non poter non fare i conti con una tradizione che, nata con la Torah (o Antico Testamento), avrebbe trovato nelle parole dei Vangeli - e, più in generale, del Nuovo Testamento - una tanto sorprendente quanto radicale rideterminazione. E, soprattutto, significa parlare di ciò che, alla luce di tale tradizione, ha sempre finito per riflettere il modo in cui si è saputo pensare il rapporto tra Dio (in quanto "principio") e le cose del mondo (in quanto "principiati"). Il modo in cui, cioè, si sarebbe riusciti a pensare una "relazione" che doveva essere proprio il Cristianesimo a concepire come inscritta nel cuore stesso di un Principio aporéticamente trinitario.

brossura Opera prima del ciabattino entusiasta Jakob Böhme, scritta di getto nel tentativo di esprimere in parole il contenuto della rivelazione mistica ricevuta, "Aurora" è stata colpita da accusa di eresia subito dopo la sua stesura nel 1612. Da allora il libro è scomparso e riapparso nel corso dei secoli seguendo vicende storiche complesse e affascinanti, letto in cenacoli di pochi iniziati e conservato gelosamente dai discepoli che lo salvarono dal silenzio - se non dalle fiamme - della censura. Si presentano per la prima volta in traduzione italiana a partire dal manoscritto originale i primi sette capitoli - una parte in sé conchiusa dell'opera - di un testo fondamentale del misticismo tedesco. L'ampia introduzione alla lettura consentirà al lettore di entrare in contatto con un pensatore mistico del tutto inusuale, che lo stesso Hegel, apparentemente distante dagli eccessi barocchi di Böhme, definì "primo filosofo tedesco".

Professor Johann Georg Bühler (1837–1898) was a scholar of ancient Indian languages and law. Bühler was born to Rev. Johann G. Bühler in Borstel, Hanover, attended grammar school in Hanover, where he mastered Greek and Latin, then university as a student of theology and philosophy at Gottingen, where he studied classical philology, Sanskrit, Zend, Persian, Armenian, and Arabic. In fall 1862 Buhler was appointed assistant at the Göttingen library; he moved there in October.

Behind these dreams and visions was the one exulting hope—that the days of servitude to the West were over and the day of independence had dawned. Much had gone before to prepare the way for such a dawn of hope: the Japanese victories made it, for the first time, shining and radiant. A religious Reformation has been advancing side by side with the new Renaissance. Christian Missions have been silently but surely leavening the old religious conceptions of the people of the East, and wherever they have spread there has been a quickening of new life. The future is all with the new. There can be no ultimate return to the old when once it has been left behind. Andrews had been involved in the Christian Social Union since university, and was interested in exploring the relationship between a commitment to the Gospel and a commitment to justice, through which he was attracted to struggles for justice throughout the British Empire, especially in India.
