Beautifully bound in 22 kt. gilt- decorated dark blue leather and lighter blue accents with raised bands on spine; all-edges gilt; silk moire endpapers; frontispiece in color. Laid in is a sheet of the Collector's Notes. The book is in very good condition: clean tight and bright with a small scratch in the gilding on top edge of textblock which has left a tiny nick on the top edges of 3 pages; one small rubbed spot on gilding of bottom edge of textblock. Image measures approx. 16.5 inches by 21.25 inches; framed; slight crease in the margin through the title. <br/><br/>Perhaps the most vivid illustrations created of 1860 Chicago were published by Jevne and Amini in France. Raoul Varin of Paris France re-created the original paintings in the mid-1920s. The differences between Mr. Varin's paintings and the original prints were subtle. He engraved a variety of signed limited edition numbered prints . in the 1920s and 1930s. They were published by A Ackermann & Son . His views took a historical perspective . often based on extant classical works - Chicagology.com". Only 100 signed prints of the finished work were published. There is a spare Northwest map in a bit less great condition - it has some toning and a few slight tears along the lower fold but is perfectly frameable on its own. Condition of the main 4 is NEAR FINE ; paper clean and colors bright one tiny flaw at one of the folds otherwise no flaws. Original publisher's portfolio is VERY GOOD ; very clean titles bright front side has some small tears to the cloth just at edge. One of the string ties is short. This copy has the elaborate invitation to the semi-centennial anniversary bound in. Invitation is stiff wraps 15 pages front cover has a photograph of St. Mark's on the cover blue and gold lettering & border last page is for an "Offering" and is perforated so it can be torn off and given with the offering. Book itself is red gilt stamped cloth b & w frontis of Rev. Haskins 140 pages includes the Programme of Services a history of the parish text of addresses from the celebration extracts from letters sent to the Rector on the occasion & a list of contributors. Also included is a real photo post card of St. Mark's . Corners and spine ends lightly bumped covers lightly scuffed with a few small spots on front cover; invitation is in excellent condition with a small damp stain at very top pages; interior is very nice with just some toning around perimeter of pages no writing or marks the small damp stain mentioned above affects only the title page.
