The inner hinges are secure. An inscription on the recto of the second front flyleaf readsd "Donated by W. Claude Hardy who wrote about eighty per cent of this volume / Feb. 11 1936." We don't know if this is actually the author's inscription. The top and bottom margins of the first page of the Preface are cut away. This may affect the top line or so of text on the version of the Preface page iv. The text is a little toned but mostly clean with just a few instances of ink notations. There are newspaper clippings taped to the top margin of page 949 and 1045 with some light browning to pages 948-949 and 1044-1045. Most of the text is devoted to the Hardy Family in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Chapter XI has the John Hardy Family in Isle of Wight County Virginia and Chapter XII has the Josiah Hardy Family in Virginia and Massachusetts.
